CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The National Guard says tests show the amount of chemical in the water is going down, but is still not where it needs to be for residents to use the water.

West Virginia American Water customers in parts of nine counties have been under a do not use water order since early Thursday evening. Those nine counties are also under a state of emergency declared by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.

A chemical leak was noticed Thursday morning in the Elk River, near Freedom Industries.

The company has since been forced by the DEP to shut down and all tanks have been moved from the property.

Saturday morning, Adjutant General James Hoyer told WV Metro News, "We are seeing some positive trends, but not numbers where they need to be."

An interagency team is working on the issue, testing water samples every hour. The tests take 46 minutes a piece. They have been able to set up five labs to work on the testing.

The team is made up of the National Guard, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Health and Human Resources, experts from Dupont, and West Virginia American Water.

What is the chemical and the name of the company/organization who’s spilled it?

Does it have anything to do with Fracking?

The west VA chemical should never have happened and would never have happened if both the state and federal EPA were doing their jobs of governmental oversight. This chemical plant is located less than one mile from the main source of drinking water. When was the last time it was inspected? When was the last emergency drill? Where was their contingency plan?

The EPA is too busy using the clean water act to harass farmers and private property owners to perform it’s intended function of protecting people and the environment from flagrant abuse and degradation by industry.

The EPA acts like a small town speed trap, more interested generating a constant flow of income than protecting anything.

Freedom Industries Releases Statement after Chemical Leak

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) — The company at the center of a chemical leak, which led to a state of emergency for several West Virginia counties has released a statement.

Early Friday afternoon, Gary Southern, President of Freedom Industries released the following statement:
“Since the discovery of the leak, safety for residents in Kanawha and surrounding counties has been Freedom Industries’ first priority. We have been working with local and federal regulatory, safety and environmental entities, including the DEP, Coast Guard, Army Corp of Engineers and Homeland Security, and are following all necessary steps to fix the issue. Our team has been working around the clock since the discovery to contain the leak to prevent further contamination. At this point, Freedom Industries is still working to determine the amountof 4-methylcyclohexanemethanol, or Crude MCHM, a chemical used in processing coal, that has been released, as the first priority was safety, containment and cleanup.

Freedom Industries is in the process of setting up an Incident Command Center on site. As more factual information is made available, we will keep you updated.”

At this time, officials say there is no timeline for when the water ban, put in place for residents in parts of nine counties, will be lifted.

How did the leak occur? Might this be a highly sophisticated false-flag incident in the war on coal, right in King Coal’s backyard? I feel for the folks in West Virgina, a state I’ve always loved.
