Fukushima: A Nuclear War without a War

The World is at a critical crossroads. The Fukushima disaster in Japan has brought to the forefront the dangers of Worldwide nuclear radiation.

The crisis in Japan has been described as “a nuclear war without a war”. In the words of renowned novelist Haruki Murakami:

“This time no one dropped a bomb on us … We set the stage, we committed the crime with our own hands, we are destroying our own lands, and we are destroying our own lives.”

Nuclear radiation –which threatens life on planet earth– is not front page news in comparison to the most insignificant issues of public concern, including the local level crime scene or the tabloid gossip reports on Hollywood celebrities.

While the long-term repercussions of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster are yet to be fully assessed, they are far more serious than those pertaining to the 1986 Chernobyl disaster in the Ukraine, which resulted in almost one million deaths

Moreover, while all eyes were riveted on the Fukushima Daiichi plant, news coverage both in Japan and internationally failed to fully acknowledge the impacts of a second catastrophe at TEPCO’s (Tokyo Electric Power Co Inc) Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant.

The shaky political consensus both in Japan, the U.S. and Western Europe is that the crisis at Fukushima has been contained.

The realities, however, are otherwise. Fukushima 3 was leaking unconfirmed amounts of plutonium. According to Dr. Helen Caldicott, “one millionth of a gram of plutonium, if inhaled can cause cancer”.

An opinion poll in May 2011 confirmed that more than 80 per cent of the Japanese population do not believe the government’s information regarding the nuclear crisis.

More alarmist bullsh*t.... Fukushima is a disaster for central Japan.
It is a minor health hazard for the area around Japan, for the rest of the world the risk is small....not zero but small. Over the course of decades
tens or even hundreds of thousands of people will die from cancer they would not have otherwise developed. But the radiation is NOT being aerosolized and dispersed into the atmosphere as in a warhead explosion.
It’s being washed into the Pacific and dispersed widely...it is not, never was and never will be a threat to humanity or life as we know it. Leave the physics and science to those who REALLY know what the facts are and how
radiation REALLY works.

The science says:

Plutonium levels 1000 times normal on sea floor 50 miles from San Francisco

Alarming West Coast sardine crash radiating through ecosystem

Scientists say Fukushima plume us at West Coast

Sea star death epidemic, dead overnight

Unprecedented salmon declines in Alaska

Thanks for your talking points, but the people who REALLY know science are saying the government is lying about the danger.

When you don’t have the facts on your side just make it up.

You have no comprehension of the quantity of nuclear material burned at Fukushima. The dumbasses stored decades of spent fuel rods inside the plants in cooling pools. When the pools drained the rods ~burned~ and aerosolized.

When the reactors lost power so did the cooling pools which contained many times the number of fuel rods as the reactors. And Reactor 3 used MOX rods with a significant plutonium content. Dozens of MOX rods were stored inside #3 and subsequently burned up when their pools drained.

A novelist? Who needs a physicist?

A million deaths from Chernobyl?

I wonder what experts like Greenpeace have to say.

I have degrees in Natural Science and Radiologic Technology....I work with
radiation and have done so for 35+ years....what are your bona fides. I know how many tons of material a typical reactor site might have....and I know that only a tiny fraction of it would have aerosolized. Perhape 2-3% of it MIGHT have been dispersed into the Pacific. Better than 95% of it is still there at the reactor site. The site is a real danger to those within 50 or so miles. It’s a significant risk to those out to maybe 100 or so miles. Beyond that the risks become statistical with the danger to any individual from the
material minimal. Your odds of dying in a car crash are hundreds of times greater than of dying from Fukushima if you live more than a couple of
hundred miles from there.

Looks like the alarmists are giving up on GoreBull warming until the end of May and are falling back to the old Soviet inspired “No Nukes” canard.

The people in the government who are doing the talking are just as ignorant as the 99% who rant and rave about subjects they are ignorant on....the only difference is the agenda. The real issue is that while the risks truly are very small we DON’T have as much hard data as would be desired. But collecting data is costly...why spend the $$$ when guessing serves the agenda and especially when the data, if collected, would most certainly NOT match up to the desired results.

Reading comprehension check.

These aren’t typical reactor sites. Reactors 1 - 6 had spent rods stored in pools within and around the reactor buildings. When the reactors blew many of the in-reactor (elevated) pools were holed and drained while pools outside the building lost coolant.

Fukushima 1-6 housed more than 6300 stored fuel assemblies dating to the 1970s.

When the storage pools lost power and water many of the stored rods burned.

In comparison to the storage pools the fuel in the reactors is negligible.

“Plutonium levels 1000 times normal on sea floor 50 miles from San Francisco”

Sounds scary, but it has nothing to do with Fukushima. It’s the result of radioactive dumping near the Farallon islands off of SF, and it’s been that way for decades.

Where’s the evidence that any of the other alleged results have anything to do with Fukushima? Sardines, for example, have always fluctuated greatly, so much that CA banned sardine fishing for 18 years in the 60 and 70s. And the current decline started in 2006. Likewise, the salmon decline was well under way before Fukushima.

Snipping together a bunch of scary sounding factoids that have nothing to do with the issue at hand proves nothing. It has made a career of sorts though for Alex Jones and his ilk.

“This time no one dropped a bomb on us … We set the stage, we committed the crime with our own hands, we are destroying our own lands, and we are destroying our own lives.”

You set the stage, committed the initial crime, and sentenced destruction of your own lands and lives last two times you had a nuclear "disaster" too.

But you are correct, that this time no one dropped a bomb on you.

” Reactors 1 - 6 had spent rods stored in pools within and around the reactor buildings.”

That makes them typical. There’s no place to store the rods because of alarmists like you. So they keep them in the reactor.

Next time, don’t bury your standby generators underground/underwater.
All was well ‘till the battery power for the pumps ran out.
