The new family minister has called for the introduction of a 32-hour working week for parents of young children, stating her plan would be funded by taxpayers.
Manuela Schwesig said on Friday that mothers and fathers with children under the age of three should not work the current 40-hour week. [ ]
But according to the Berlin-based German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), the plan from the center-left SPD would cost taxpayers 140 million ($191 million) a year.

what will be funded??
shouldn’t employers pay the employees??
I don’t know why they just don’t pass a law saying no one ever has to work and that the Gov ‘t will pay for everything.
Makes no sense.
That’s the Social Democrats for you.
Those Taxpayers... Why they must be a never ending funding source. I wonder what will happen to the politicians and country when the last of them have been ‘hunted down’ or squeezed dry of money.

Remember, that is an estimate. In time, the realization will come that the real cost is in the billions.
As a parent of a whole lot of children, my family could have benefited financially (in the short term) except that I would have refused.
(1) I have no right to money taken by force from others, and
(2) I do not want to teach my children to be parasites.
This proposal would only transfer wealth from decent people to those with no morals, and it would erode the values and self-reliance of the children who watched their parents accepting welfare, if the kids understood what was happening. I hope Germany will reject this terrible idea before they turn themselves into Greece, Italy, or Spain.
I think the taxpayers should fund a $1million mansion for every citizen in the country! Don’t be stingy Mr. Taxpayer!
Germans only work 40hrs a week? I haven’t worked less than 50-60hrs a week since 1994 (of course only get paid 40). The only shocker is she actually mentioned men can qualify. Yeah right men, try telling that to your boss, you would be laughed at all the way the unemployment line. I guess it’s only Americans that are chained to the deck until they drop dead.
