David Rose of the Mail on Sunday tears the BBC a new one, thanks to an amateur climate blogger.
The BBC has spent tens of thousands of pounds over six years trying to keep secret an extraordinary eco conference which has shaped its coverage of global warming, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.
The controversial seminar was run by a body set up by the BBCs own environment analyst Roger Harrabin and funded via a £67,000 grant from the then Labour government, which hoped to see its line on climate change and other Third World issues promoted in BBC reporting.
At the event, in 2006, green activists and scientists one of whom believes climate change is a bigger danger than global nuclear war lectured 28 of the Corporations most senior executives.
Then director of television Jana Bennett opened the seminar by telling the executives to ask themselves: How do you plan and run a city that is going to be submerged? And she asked them to consider if climate change laboratories might offer material for a thriller.
A lobby group with close links to green campaigners, the International Broadcasting Trust (IBT), helped to arrange government funding for both the climate seminar and other BBC seminars run by Mr Harrabin one of which was attended by then Labour Cabinet Minister Hilary Benn.
Applying for money from Mr Benns Department for International Development (DFID), the IBT promised Ministers the seminars would influence programme content for years to come.
The BBC began its long legal battle to keep details of the conference secret after an amateur climate blogger spotted a passing reference to it in an official report.
Tony Newbery, 69, from North Wales, asked for further disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. The BBCs resistance to revealing anything about its funding and the names of those present led to a protracted struggle in the Information Tribunal. The BBC has admitted it has spent more than £20,000 on barristers fees. However, the full cost of their legal battle is understood to be much higher.
US “eco-warriors”, with the help of the EPA, are directly responsible for the decline of US manufacturing. Make energy more expensive and regulations more invasive and American jobs flee overseas.
Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...
No kidding !
Leftist. Using your own money to destroy and replace you. It’s what they do.
I like to refer to the News. so called as DisInfoTainment
I am thinking I read where much of the country’s pension funds were tied up in ‘green’ stocks so they are now dependent financially on the propping up of this farce.
An earlier post of the original Daily Mail story.
It seems that the Daily Mail, a publication not currently in favor among certain of Free Republic management, is indeed capable of doing original reporting of some importance. I wonder if the U.S. MSM will pick this up?
I stopped paying any attention to Da Beeb since 2003, when their correspondents were booted off the Royal Navy for spiking stories and publishing combat information, just like Gerry Rivers and Faux.
Thanks for the Ping —
This is NEWS to me and what many NEWS agencies used to investigate and expose before they were reduced to Chat rooms.
The left has it’s blind followers and only believe what they want. It’ll be a hard sell to convince them of any truth...but thank God someone is trying.
if it is part of the MSM I know it is propaganda at best
Never fear. It can never happen here, cough. Last week, MSNBC announced they’ve hired an extra special person, who can only be described as Head of Proaganda, to approve each and every story on air or in print.
Anthropogenic global ‘warming’ logically means that solving for it must reduce the ‘surplus’ population, whatever that it.
I'm sure both viewers will rest easier knowing they won't be exposed to any unapproved truth that disrupts their preconditioning.
