Premature newborn was pronounced dead: but then doctors gave him to his mother to hold

A premature newborn in Australia, born along with his twin sister at just 27 weeks’ gestation and weighing in at only two pounds, was pronounced dead by his physician after medical staff tried for twenty minutes to revive him. Jamie Ogg, now a little over three years old, is alive today only because of the undying love and affection of his mother.

According to the U.K.’s Daily Mail, when Jamie was pronounced dead, the doctor handed him to his mother, Kate, so that she could say goodbye to her son. Kate took Jamie into her arms and tearfully caressed her tiny son.

She and her husband spoke to him, telling him what his name was, and that he had a sister. She told him the things that she had wanted to do with him throughout his life. Kate held Jamie on her chest, skin-to-skin, and occasionally he would gasp – a reflex the doctor said was normal after death.

But Kate held on to Jamie for two hours, cradling and talking to him, and slowly she witnessed him beginning to show signs of life.

Jamie began gasping for air more frequently, and then Kate gave him a little breast milk on her finger. The baby took the milk, and then he opened his eyes. Her stupefied doctor stood next to the bed, astonished and in disbelief. It was a miracle, and it has been wholly attributed to the faithfulness of a loving mother who, although there was no reason to believe that her son would come back to life, still showed him all of the love she had within her.

I saw something on TV where this happened in the 90s in the U.S.

Since the baby is "illegally alive," what do they do to restore it to it's legal state?

I know when my son was a baby and when he would get sick - he would recover much faster when I held him day and night and sleep upright just holding him throughout the night...there’s a lot that can be said when a parent holds their their young...right before bed, I hold him until he falls asleep - he’s almost 6...but he is very confident and mature - and smart...and when I hold him I never think that’s he’s a burden and tell myself how lucky I am to be his father!

...and I adopted him when he was 8 months old and he has CP...and yes, I’m the one blessed to have been chosen his father...not the other way around!

I’ve heard this story - right after it happened ...Aussies were referring to it as “Kangaroo Therapy” - when a young joey is in his mum’s pouch...that skin-on-skin contact and the healing properties...which is why I still hold mt little boy...

My best friend’s baby became gravely ill when less than a year old, and needed open heart surgery before he was 18 months. She never gave up, gave her entire heart and held him close except when in the surgical suite. He is now a healthy almost three year old who shows no signs of having been close to death. She was terrified for him but all he knew was her touch and her love.

A mommy’s love is a force of nature not to be trifled with.
