Well, our progressive friends are once again calling for single payer health care. The ironic pretext this time is that Obamacare has collapsed into chaos
But the advocates of the Affordable Care Act, as these people stubbornly refer to it, refuse to accept that the crackup was caused by the inevitable incompetence of government bureaucrats. They believe the real problem was avaricious insurance executives. Thus, people like Michael Moore, Paul Krugman and even Colin Powell urge us to cast out the money changers and wholly surrender our health care to the tender mercies of the federal government.

Linky no worky.
Seniors love medicare because :
1) Much of the funding comes from taxing other Americans who don’t even get it, they themselves may not have health insurance
2) The rest of the funding comes from the US borrowing $$$ to pay those medicare bills.
Without those it would look like medicaid.
I subscribe to the school of thought that, now that Obamacare Is The Law Of The Land, if it is possible to make it collapse under its own weight, then seniors — more specifically, “sick” seniors — should have no reluctance whatsoever to sign up and run up the bill.
Of course, it might simply be another Social Security, or as you wrote, Medicare, where its implicit bankruptcy is obvious, yet the few weak efforts to change it in the slightest way are immediately met with human props on a stage in back of Obama, sob stories of “rights” being taken away, etc.
Seniors get medicare already, although it doesn't pay for long term nursing home costs. They already have no problem 'running up the bill', heck they are told that they earned it.
What were you trying to get at?
I get medical care from the VA.....you do not want single payer!!!!
I meant anybody in their 40’s and up.
Seniors have no choice but to enroll in Medicare it’s mandatory as far as their running up the bill they don’t enjoy a visit to a doctors office any more than you do but they most certainly will have more medical problems. Your cavalier attitude toward senior makes one wonder....have you spoken to mommy and daddy about their corrupting the system...have you encouraged them to just go away and die.....hummmm!!!
The article says that Sweden recently DITCHED Single Payer.
Very interesting. I did not know that.
Ins companies vs gov. Here is the difference. If Ins Co A screw the customer, everyone else hears about it and get another policy. Injured party has a chance to sue if the terms were changed midstream. If the gov runs health, if they change terms midstream you cannot sue. Look at Soc Sec when retirement ages were changed. SCOTUS ruled citzens cannot sue breach of contract because Soc Sec is a “legislated entitlement” and Congress can change terms and benefits anytime. If an ins co does foolish things and face bankruptcy within ten years, customer finds out he can replace policy with another ins coy. If gov run healthcare is facing bankruptcy, too bad, you keep paying for it or go to jail.
True,
but those who believe in and argue for the good of big, powerful, compassionate and good government will argue that the federal government will always be superior to any private industry in providing services because they don’t have to worry about how much it costs, the government has unlimited $$$ to spend on it.
Exhibit A “Medicare.
I am including people in their 40’s and 50’s as “seniors”. I am in that category. I’d say I have at least three matters of medical necessity (but not of medical emergency) requiring a hospital stay I could attend to this year
