U.S. investigators are looking into whether embattled New Jersey Governor Chris Christie misused about $2 million in Superstorm Sandy relief funds for an ad campaign that put him in the spotlight in an election year, a lawmaker said on Monday. Already enmeshed in a scandal over snarled traffic at the George Washington Bridge, Christie, a rising star in the Republican party, is now being audited by the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, said New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone Jr., a Democrat.
The inspector is focusing on a federally financed $25 million Jersey Shore marketing campaign that included a television commercial featuring Christie and his family, which cost $2 million more than a competing bid without them.
"It is inappropriate for taxpayer-funded dollars that are critical to our state's recovery from this natural disaster to fund commercials that could potentially benefit a political campaign," Pallone said in an August 8, 2013 letter requesting the investigation.

So will Debbie Stabenow be investigated too? After all she got hurricane Sandy funds for the great lakes.
Christie may recover enough to run for president as long as no evidence surfaces connecting him directly to the order to close the bridge lanes. But even without the scandal, he faced long odds to win the nomination.
On the other hand, the Democrats have the most scandal-plagued candidate in recent history as their frontrunner. Liberals may not care about Hillarys problems, but the American people may. The point being, just what is it the left is celebrating about the Christie bridge scandal?
Those who live in glass houses
Not very often do we get to see a good display of karmic justice.
This is very entertaining, and should serve as a warning to Republicans... cozy up to the media and the Democrats and you will be burned.
Pretty funny since the Feds gave him $10 BILLION more than was requested......
What this should tell RINO’s everywhere is no matter how much you cave, kiss ass, hug Obama or whatever, the press will get you just because you have an “-R” behind your name. So either grow a set and be a conservative Rep or just put on your onesie pajamas and be a Democrat.
And now she has Benghazi, the Panty Bomber etc etc to answer for....
Hillary...go home...bake some cookies and iron Bubba's shirts.
Great Leader’s claws go for Christie, and here Christie probably thought they were palsy walsies.
Good, now when will they investigate any of the hundreds of scandals surrounding the fag-in-chief?
I would never vote for him but this crap is ridiculous.
Christie didn’t get Brian Terry killed.
Christie didn’t leave our ambassador and others in Benghazi to die and then lie about it and promote the face of the lie.
Christie didn’t send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan for a mission he didn’t believe in.
How’s that hug working out for you Christie?
Christy must worry the Dems. a whole lot. They are coming after him with both barrels blazing. This may make their attacks on Sarah Palin look mild.
Hey Chris, that big wet kiss you gave Obama really paid off, eh?
I agree. Media hypocrisy in full view.
Pallone is a tool for Hillary. (Seriously, he used to be my congresscritter, until we were gerrymandered back into a Republican district.) The advertising firm in question IIRC is primarily a Democrat firm, and is located across the street from the NJ state capitol building, wich is probably why it was chosen.
Unlike most things that were supposed to be funded with Sandy relief money, and judging by the traffic and parking situation at the beach this past summer -- the ad campaign actually worked.
Yep, they will be nice to right up to the minute they decide to destroy you.
So that’s how they destroy a person’s image with the public, even though he has done nothing wrong.
Clever, those democrats.
