Skip to comments.Rubio, McCain: Gates should have waited to write his book

Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates should have waited to publish the memoir in which he harshly criticized President Obama's leadership in the war in Afghanistan, two top Republican senators said Sunday.
"I would have waited, but as far as waiting until it's over in Afghanistan, I wouldn't have done that," Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said on CNN's "State of the Union," though he was quick to praise the former defense secretary.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a potential 2016 presidential contender, made similar comments on CBS's "Face the Nation."
"My preference would be that people would refrain from writing these sorts of things until the president is out of office because I think it undermines the ability to conduct foreign policy," Rubio said.

F all RINO’s
And Rubio’s conservative “cred” comes crashing down once again...
Does Linseed know that McQueeg has a new girlfriend?
BS It should have come out prior to the 2012 election.
Sometimes a person just has to sit back and admire the gall these people have.
And of course they mean the best time to publish would have been ‘NEVER’.
Wait for Lindy to out-shout those beeotches on how terrible DaddyMac has been dissed by Gates!
Juan “Lettuce” McBackStabbingAisleReachingAsshat — Beard for a Communist
So they’re OK with politicizing the war and endangering our troops? McCain should be recalled.
..yeah, this way Hildabeast can skate through without any worries.....****ing morons
Just when I thought Rubio might be gaining credibility again, he slips down the ladder, and lands on that old coot McLame.
I will agree, this should not have been written now... I’d have preferred it written BEFORE 2012!
Truth be told he should have quit in protest...then he wouldn’t have had to write a book.
Don’tcha know the elites have to follow a code and protect each other. If too much information got out there about them to the general public, it could mess up the good thing they got going.
so the talk is all about how Gates is a betrayer for revealing that obama is a dumba$$...NOT about that fact that the dumba$$ is still running the country
I think this is the PERFECT time for him to release his book.
Not AFTER he is out of office and there is nothing that can be done. He is telling us NOW that we HAVE A DUMBA$$ RUNNING THE COUNTRY~!!!
(of course this means Boehner will have the balls to do anything about it, and he clearly doesn’t)
Rubio re-affirms that he is one of McLame’s butt-boys.
“And Rubios conservative cred comes crashing down once again...”
Conservative cred is like virginity. Once you f*ck somebody, it’s gone.
Ha, I will never again trust Rubio. Once you uncover yourself as a loser GOPe you cannot unring the bell. Check out Cornyn’s ads in Texas, Pathetic at best.
Absolutely yes, because we know the democrats would never criticize a sitting president.
And yes, two wrongs DO make a right here. Unless continuing to lose elections is the goal.
After all the pro-Obama tripe we have had foisted on us? I don’t think so.
You mean mac daddies great foreign policy?
How could it be any worse than it is now?
Yea lets wait until mac daddy has destroyed America, it that a good time?
And these are two of America’s elected leaders that sit by and watch this lawless squatter ignore laws that he do not benefit him or his perverse goals,.
Wow, you just can’t make these types of comment up.
Rubio is history. He has become Juan McCain’s new little Boy Toy along with Linda Graham.
Idiots like this is why the GOP is down to 22% of the population in the last Gallup poll on the subject.
People should wait until AFTER an incumbent leaves office before cricizing them. Like until AFTER the next Presidential Election when the information will be politically USELESS. As useless as that trio of mental midgets Rubio, McCain and Graham.
From what I have heard about the book on the MSM, it is quite laudatory about Hillary. Gates says that Hussein lacked "passion", but that "Hillary would make a fine president".
Hussein is a lame duck; so it doesn't matter that Gates spoke critically of him. I wonder if the book wasn't timed to help get the Hillary juggernaut rolling.
There's somethin'...ah say there's somethin' about that boy that just ain't right.
That could only be true if Obozo had any such ability to begin with.
Rubio has, once again, momentarily left his guard down and his underlying despicableness has shown through. NEVER, EVER trust this weasel.
But the quote that is getting all the ink is when Hillary said she was against the war in Afghanistan for political reasons. Hmm. Is that supposed to make us think the book is fair and then we go out and buy it and find that it is a paean to Ms. Cankles?
I love the way everybody here bites on the headlines and doesn’t read the rest of the story, where of course both McCain and Rubio say that, while they might have preferred waiting, they’re glad for the information and it sheds more light on their long-standing concerns about Bozo’s “foreign policy.” McCain even says that he wouldn’t have been willing to wait until “Afghanistan was done.”
And remember, they’re reacting to insider tell-all books, most of them hear-say and innuendo, published about Bush during his term, which most certainly did make his legitimate policies more difficult.
Yes, in theory it might have been gentlemanly to wait, but as they both say, the book confirms serious concerns about Obama’s actions and words. Naturally, the WP was not going to put that in the headline.
RINO’s Speaketh in defense of Obama again
‘Ya think Gate’s is trying to get somebody’s attention like our Congress? Is this a warning shot across McCain’s bow as well as the Senate? Apparently a lot of the ‘quotes’ from Gate’s book are taken out of context...it is more about the people surrounding the community organizer who are giving him bad advice and he is too _____ to know it.
Knopf, publisher of the Clintons.
I guess he doesn’t think the MSM should report the facts during a war either.
Since Gates did not resign and make these events public when they happened, he should not have written this book at all. I expect that Dems have no honor, but I would expect Gates to have had some. By not offering his resignation when Obama, Biden, and Clinton made their statements Gates deliberately chose the dishonorable path for himself and his country.
Rino butt kissers. I wish they would all go away.
“Just when I thought Rubio might be gaining credibility again...”
Never will understand why Freepers often offer the other side of their back where there’s room for another knife.
I think the troops he is deploying have a right to know their C in C has no faith they can do the job, although I’m pretty sure most of them know what this bunch thinks of them.
...of course you would hear that from the MSM....praise, no scandal, scandal draws interest....interest draws scrutiny...scrutiny draws more interest....nothing worst for a RAT than scrutiny
waited how long?? Until after the November election??
Gates book may well remove the log jam and bring out more revealing books between now and then - let’s hope!
I heard he needed the money, his unemployment ran out.
2 liberal socialist jerks sticking up for obama!
Note to Rubio and McCain: Gates waited until after he left the administration to write his book.
Note to faux leaders: If you don’t want people to tell the truth about you, don’t do things that will embarrass you.
They never want it published and will find one excuse after another.
Imagine for a second Schumer or Reid criticizing someone for writing a negative book on Bush during his presidency? Never happen. The Repubs are the stupid party. Always trying to suckup to the liberal media.
“because I think it undermines the ability to conduct foreign policy,” Rubio said.”
I wonder if he ever really thinks before he speaks? Or maybe he just isn’t paying attention to Barry’s foreign policy or basically failure to conduct it. Then there’s McStain getting his pic taken with Al Queda.
