Volunteer fire departments to be exempted from Obamacare's employer health care mandate

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration will grant a waiver exempting volunteer emergency departments, mainly fire departments, from the Affordable Care Act's requirement that employers with more than 50 workers working 30 hours or more per week provide health coverage.

The announcement came from a Treasury Department official in a blog posted over the weekend. It means that on January 1, 2015, when employers with 50 or more workers are required to provide health coverage to their workers, volunteer fire department and ambulance companies will be exempted.

Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., who joined some other congressional members in asking for the waiver, said the administration's announcement insures the continuation of voluntary emergency services throughout Louisiana and the nation.

The constitution is toilet paper to the Kenyan and his Marxist clan.

The very fact that they declared them exempt this year means they have the power to declare them non-exempt some other year.

They never did through the fire organization, it was voluntary thus no pay, beni’s etc. The problem was that bammycare doesn’t make any distinction between volunteer organizations and others. Thus volunteer organizations (who often have many volunteers to spread the burden) were going to be on the hook for either insurance or the penalty to the government, neither of which was affordable.

Luckily King Barack has seen fit to allow us to keep our volunteer fire departments for at least one more year.

It must be nice to be King and not have to worry about all the small details in those pesky laws you signed!

Senator Manchin needed a gimme for the home folks to try and make up for his 2nd amendment transgression. Manchin or his minions drafted a bill to do the same thing only to have Obama wave his magic wand and make things all better.

I’m waiting to see if Manchin claims he went to the White House wearing his knee pads and took care of things.

Figures, here in my area the FD union and Police union were very much for Obama. Was an interesting article during the last election, that the police dept parking lot was filled with Obama Biden stickers. Someone covered his bumper with the Don’t Tread on me Flag, and TEA, and all the sudden, it was controversial, and all political stickers had to be removed.

I have very little respect for their unions, and those who have been promoted and hired in these departments based on race and quotas. I am pretty sure that those that sported the dem markings on their cars, were just trying to get promoted or get ahead. No proof of that, but I know a few cops and fireman who individually hate liberalism.

I used to be General Superintendent at a short line railroad that had a large contingent of volunteer train buffs that would help staff and run weekend tourist passenger trains. I wonder if Dear Leader has exempted them... oh that’s right... dirty coal-burning steam locomotives have got to go.

Well, that’s another pool of relatively young, healthy potential pigeons who won’t be signing up.....
