HHS report shows Obamacare behind on signing up young Americans (60-90 percent short of breakeven)

Just 24 percent of Americans signing up for coverage under President Obama's health care law through December were part of the young adult demographic, the Department of Health and Human Services announced Monday -- well below the nearly 39 percent the White House had once deemed essential to the law's success.

In a new report, HHS said that through Dec. 28 (about halfway through the six-month open enrollment period), roughly 2.2 million Americans signed up for coverage on one of the law's health insurance exchanges. That's well below the administration's target of 3.3 million. And HHS still hasn't disclosed how many of those who have signed up for insurance have actually paid their first premiums, which is necessary for enrollment to be finalized.

It's worth stipulating that age is only a rough approximation of the health status of the overall risk pool, as it's possible to have young and sick enrollees or older and healthier enrollees.

Don't worry. They'll make it up on volume.

Remember, it is supposed to fail and provide justification for single payer.

It’s all going to plan. He’ll say he tried to do it in the free market, but greed from insurance companies ruined it.

What we’re in right now is Obamacare part 1. Just wait for part 2.

A friend who decided to go back to her old policy from her new Obamacare policy was told (after 7 hours on the phone) that there was no mechanism to stop auto-pay. BCBS did cancel her policy but said they could not stop the auto-deduction either. Today she closed her checking account and moved it to a different bank.

This is a big pain as she had to cancel/change over all of her other auto-pay accounts.

But wait - our Republican friends are going to protect us right? How can this happen without the consent of Republicans? Surely this can NOT happen as long as there are Republicans in office! Okay yes, this is satire...

So even if you like your bank you can't keep your bank once it is touched by Obamacare?

Heh, pretty close... Unfortunately, our political system is broken and not so sure that it can be fixed before bad things happen.

We have a two party system in which both parties are corrupt and willing to protect their domains without regard to the public outcry. This will continue or will be defeated by another revolution... Time will tell.

Sometimes it is necessary to corrupt the system to eventually gain equality even if the political parties don’t agree. This is called payback and is the responsibility of the public but it seem that it is getting more unlikely when both continue to bribe the public.

It’s so easy to bride us with our own money - steal from the rich and give to the poor - a common idea, that eventually, you have all the votes you need for Communism.

Good luck you folks that are clueless about what is going on!!. Your future is dim...yes, I am talking about all of you racist black and Spanish folks that vote Democrat without understand what you are really voting for.

May you experience what you have been voting for!

it’s already single payer.
that’s what insurance company subsidies mean.
