Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio is making a mistake pushing for an immigration overhaul this year, according to one of the House Republican Conferences former top immigration negotiators.
Rep. John Carter of Texas, one of four GOP congressmen who was part of bipartisan negotiations over comprehensive immigration policy changes last year, said voting on the matter this year would distract from the partys efforts to highlight flaws in President Barack Obamas health care law.
Boehner told the conference and the press last week that leaders and committee chairmen will produce a blueprint outlining agreed-upon principles for overhauling the nations immigration system, leading many to speculate that votes on the issue could be held later this year.
Im opposed to voting on a bill this year, said Carter, who was a member of GOP leadership last Congress. I was in conference when John announced that. It was a surprise to me as much as it was a surprise to anybody else.

Help America in need — vote Boner OUT !!
Sounds good to me.
You are right. Boner needs to go.
>> voting on the matter this year would distract from the partys efforts to highlight flaws in President Barack Obamas health care law.
Boehner is Obama’s point-man in the House.
Question: What is the biggest understatement, thus far, in 2014?
“...voting on the matter this year would distract from the party’s efforts to highlight flaws in President Barack Obama’s health care law.”
Boehner is aware of that. So, he wants to give Obama cover.
The mid tier GOP will get in trouble for using Steve King talking points on this and a conference.
Bonehead = Obama. There is not much of a difference, at least one that matters.
now, just wait a cotton-pickin second! There is a HUGE difference...
One is an enemy within the gates; the other, just an enemy within the room.
“voting on the matter this year would distract from the partys efforts to highlight flaws in President Barack Obamas health care law.”
Which is precisely why the idiot GOPe will bring up immigration this year. Their corporatist masters demand it.
John Charter, our Representative, got his ears filled by the local Tea Party folks, I R 1, last summer. His local office face attends all of the T-Party meetings and hears Carter’s name used in vain.
I will vote for anyone running against him, yes even a Democrat. If we are going to have an Obama supporter as our representative, it just as well be one a little closer to the imposter...
He used to be a reliable conservative but Washington got to him...
He represents very conservative Bell and Williamson Counties just north of the socialist state of Travis (Austin).
The people we replace you with will see to it that it NEVER happens.
ANN COULTER SUPER WOMAN
ANNIE COULTER.....:WARRIOR PRINCESS/TIMELESS PATRIOT
Boehner has it in the bag with three people running against him in the primary, I understand.
People in OH would sooner petition for annexation to Canada before they would vote out Boehner. They think he is “conservative” in that he keeps the status quo, or does he?
Bell County is south of Austin, but Carter like Cornball has moved left.
Bell County is North of Austin... Heading north on IH-35 Travis County (Austin), Williamson(Georgetown, Round Rock), Bell (Belton Temple). I live 4 miles west of IH-35 MM 264)
Unlike Carter, I have not moved anywhere in about 30 years...
