GOP Myths About Conservative Candidates
Breitbart ^ | 13 Jan 2014, 9:35 AM PDT | Mike Flynn

Posted on 01/13/2014 4:39:38 PM PST by lqcincinnatus

The pundit class and the GOP establishment currently are engaged in massive "concern trolling" over the possibility that Republican voters will elect conservatives in party primaries. Karl Rove, the US Chamber of Commerce and other special interests have vowed to spend whatever it takes to prevent citizens from nominating the "wrong" candidates. Setting aside the conceit that these interests know better than voters who should represent them, are these concerns even valid?

The establishment's argument is based on three things: 1) Rep. Todd Akin (MO), 2) Sharron Angle (NV), and 3) Christine O'Donnell (DE). Granted, these campaigns were train wrecks, but it isn't as simple a narrative as the Tea Party ousting more electable candidates. In Missouri and Nevada, the Tea Party was largely divided among two other candidates, allowing Akin and Angle to sneak through. Grass roots activists across the country did rally behind O'Donnell in the final days of the campaign, but she was only successful because Rep. Mike Castle, the GOP frontrunner, had arrogantly not really campaigned for the nomination.

The point is not that conservatives can't get elected (except in places like Massachusetts), but that flaky conservatives can't get elected. Not only Akin, Angle and O'Donnell prove that point, but also Katherine Harris and Mourdock.

Not many people are willing to go up against a well-established GOPe incumbent.

Consequently, the one who is willing is likely to be inexperienced, and is going to put foot in mouth from time to time. And even if they don’t, a flood of attacks will be launched by establishment Repubs, and none of the usual establishment sources of money will be available. You will have Rove badmouthing them on Hannity all month long. They will be made a laughing stock, even if they don’t make any mistakes, which its guaranteed that being rookies, they will.

You have to decide, how badly to you want to get rid of the GOPe incumbent and are you going to be swayed by what Fox and CNN say about them.

Karl Rove has no more understanding of the TEA Party movement than does Howard Dean, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz or John McCain and for the very same reasons.

I could also say that this would apply to such “pseudo-conservatives” like Senator John Cornyn and Lindsey Graham.

Well, looney totalitarian leftists sure can get elected.

And ya know what? I think we have reached the point where the GOPe needs to learn that if conservatives don't run, the base will absolutely stay home, and the looney leftists will win yet again.

The GOPe plays chicken with us every election, with disastrous results. Hillary Clinton will beat any RINO candidate.

If she wins in 2016, it won't be my fault. But I'm absolutely not voting for another RINO politician EVER.

Well, the certainly can’t win if guys like Luger and, of course Rove, not only do not support the party’s candidate but actively work to defeat them.

The tea party and Palin was against Akin, he was Michelle Bachmann’s baby.

Palin didn’t endorse Angle in the primary, in fact Palin’s dad endorsed someone else.

Funny, I recently wrote my GOP) Rep. I said unless you get a TPP endorsement, I will vote against you in the primary. I have some rumor and hearsay about him. He votes GOP lately (immigration stuff etc.). When it is evident RYAN is BSing us, I laced into him for voting for the budget, sic Obama care. His perception of his office is tat he is king because the GOP owes him on fundraising. I stopped contributing to the GOP and strictly contribute to the TPP.

Well I won’t ramble, nor will I vote Dem; but without a TPP endorsement, I will not vote for him. Sounds like a lot of folks have the same idea. JMO

Unfortunately, I think Hillary will win in a landslide. We have a different kind of voter now. I hope I am wrong, but I expect another Clinton in the White Hut.

California? Doubtful.

We can depend on one thing: Hilary is a terrible as a candidate. Maybe another: she is getting old.

That’s the sort that Rove wants in every race, but they have little appeal. Occasionally you get business people like Wilkie, but board rooms produce boring people, because board members like to tone things down. The flat style is preferred.

So tired of people atacking Akin, Angle, O’Donnell. Anyone still attacking those folks are not Conservative...and never were Conservative in the first place

The outright sandbagging of Akin by PhonyCon Liberals still sickens me to this day. Real Conservatives stood with Akin ater he apologized for his comments....the Pansy-Assed RINOs kept whining with the Liberal Media

Time to crush the Liberal PhonyCons. Voting for a non-conservative GOP is just voting liberal

Setting aside the conceit that these interests know better than voters ...

NO, it must not be 'set aside'... Lots of countries ruled by 'elites' and all of them are crap... Our country wouldn't be any different.

Command economies don't work - command political systems don't work. It degrades into elites looking out for themselves... every time.

THAT is exactly right and I bank on it.

It would be a crime and treason to ever again be intimidated, coerced, or threatened, into EVER casting a vote for another Establishment socialist nominee like McCain and Romney.

This goes double for FReeper intimidation as well.

The Establishment must lose point blank to ever hope this stops. They are as fraudulent to my party platform, to the best interest of my family and to my country as they have allowed Obama to be, and I will not aid, abet or assist them further in the demise of the three.

It’s hard to be a patriot sometimes, and often it comes at a price, but YOU are one! God bless you.

Wish we had a battalion more rock ribbed and defiant as you.
We wouldn’t stay in this shape long if we did. ,!

The p*ssyfication of the nation will have something to do with it.

People need to attack “feminists”-—if they’re so strong and able, why are they scared of babies and need the help of gubmint subsidies for birth control? Not “strong” enough to close their legs without gubmint help?
