Obama, Maria Shriver to talk women’s poverty issues
CNN's Political Ticker ^ | January 13, 2014 | Becky Brittain, CNN White House Producer

Posted on 01/13/2014 5:41:40 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

President Barack Obama will on Tuesday discuss a topic he is familiar with from his childhood – American women living in economic insecurity and trying to be breadwinners and caregivers at the same time.

Raised by a single mother who was described as someone who struggled to pay the bills, Obama on Tuesday will meet with Maria Shriver, who is reporting on some 42 million women who she says live “one single incident – a doctor's bill, a late paycheck, or a broken-down car – away from economic ruin."

Shriver's latest investigation in her series from "The Shriver Report" is titled: "A Woman's Nation Pushes Back from the Brink."

The report finds that women comprise up two-thirds of the primary or co-breadwinners in American families. The average female earns 77 cents for every dollar pulled down by a man...

Maria Shriver, daughter and wife of privilege. She is the supreme expert on poverty. Indeed.

Ok, how about how liberal divorce laws and the sexual revolution led men to think they were not necessary, leaving women to raise their kids alone on welfare?

If only we women realized what we gave up when feminism became so popular.

I am one of the few people among my co-workers that thinks “It’ll be OK, we’ll figure something out” if there’s a medical bill or car repair or whatever.

That’s because I am married to a responsible husband. They are amazed that not only do all my kids have the some dad, but we are still together after 20+ years. I think we are normal, they think we are something else.

If only we could do a “system restore” on our culture and set things back several years.

If your life is ruined because of a late paycheck or a broken down car, then you don’t know how to manage money and it’s your responsibility, not mine.

I suppose now we will have another protected class — stupid women who don’t know how to budget and save for a rainy day.

I grew up before there was health insurance. My folks always had a bill at the Dr.s office and Pharmacist's. They made payments every month, all year.

But, we survived and I have managed to prosper, without being born or married into privilege.

I love how the rich have the poor all figured out. As others have said - stay in school, get a degree in something worthwhile, get married, have a couple of kids. The majority of “poor women” dropped out, got pregnant (more than once), daddy gone, and expect the rest of us to pay for them.

The feminism sword is double edged. Free sex with no worries of pregnancy means the same for men. All fun and no responsibility. And of course, no commitment. Many men like that.

Extreme feminists probably end up old and bitter and lonely. I wonder how many have regrets when the “clock” has wound down.

maybe Maria might tell Obama to stop destroying the American economy and millions of jobs ... employment is a key pathway to getting out of poverty.
maybe Maria might tell Obama to stop destroying American businesses, particularly small and medium sized businesses and family-run shops, etc. business is a key pathway to getting out of poverty.
maybe Maria might tell Obama to stop forcing people onto federal welfare programs, extensions of unemployment (same thing), or into filing fake or exaggerated disability claims (same thing). Getting off the dole and back to work is a key pathway to getting out of poverty.

They can tell them what they really think. That they should have chosen their parents more carefully & been born rich. Maria did it, why didn't they?

I really liked what you wrote. It conveys a marriage that is a partnership and truly equal.

I wonder just how many these days even know the term from Mom "Just wait till your father gets home!!" and the fear of God that it carried while she keeps that home humming (working mom or no; doesn't matter). Conversely, when things broke and Dad fixed things instead of replacing them or calling "the repair guy" all the time. I guess what I am getting at is I liked your last sentence. We need a "system restore". Men and Women have their strengths and weakness' and we compliment each other for a reason when we step back and just realize that.

God I'm so glad that there are no men in this position or dying of cancer. Normal heterosexual men can just go to hell because we don't count. Only women, queers and minorities are important or to be concerned about apparently.

She's trying to rally single women, especially poor single women to demand all sorts of new employer mandates passed by Federal government:

The living wage, same pay was men regardless of performance and paid sick leave are some of the obvious ones they are told to demand from elected as new Federal laws..

And she told them to train their sons when young to vote for this crap.

I'm not deriding your post, but there are a LOT of fathers out here pulling down the full time jobs, tending home and have kids full time. The deficit for them (the fathers)? MANY don't understand or short change the Dad's situation like they don't exist. Reality? It is VERY common but does not fit the story line and those guys get run through the grinder in "family court" anyway. To be true, there are dirt bag guys out there (lots) not supporting their responsibility, but there are also women that know those kids equal $$$ if they don't want that free abortion the democrats love to push. It is a net result of our society voting in politicians who condone such behavior. Lets face facts; our society learned it could vote itself the treasury as well as never being held to account at all ever again. It's not going to end well.

Not obama alone, the democrats and the gop-e; The feral government in DC. Without a truly destitute and dependent class there is no reason for 90% of DC to exist. The “payday” will run out soon enough and those paying attention are [preparing accordingly. Those that are not will be the “problem children”. I saw someone on FR post a handful of weeks back to the tune of “take note of who got us here, make sure they pay and never weasel their way back after the collapse and re-building”.

I was not saying anything against the fathers who struggle to raise their children for they have a difficult road.

What I was trying to say was that mac daddies choice could have been better, the reason i left him out was that whatever he says or does is meaningless and has no credibility. As with all his decisions it was meaningless and all show without any substance.
