President Barack Obama will on Tuesday discuss a topic he is familiar with from his childhood – American women living in economic insecurity and trying to be breadwinners and caregivers at the same time.
Raised by a single mother who was described as someone who struggled to pay the bills, Obama on Tuesday will meet with Maria Shriver, who is reporting on some 42 million women who she says live “one single incident – a doctor's bill, a late paycheck, or a broken-down car – away from economic ruin."
Shriver's latest investigation in her series from "The Shriver Report" is titled: "A Woman's Nation Pushes Back from the Brink."
The report finds that women comprise up two-thirds of the primary or co-breadwinners in American families. The average female earns 77 cents for every dollar pulled down by a man...

I am one of the few people among my co-workers that thinks “It’ll be OK, we’ll figure something out” if there’s a medical bill or car repair or whatever.
That’s because I am married to a responsible husband. They are amazed that not only do all my kids have the some dad, but we are still together after 20+ years. I think we are normal, they think we are something else.
If only we could do a “system restore” on our culture and set things back several years.
If your life is ruined because of a late paycheck or a broken down car, then you don’t know how to manage money and it’s your responsibility, not mine.
I suppose now we will have another protected class — stupid women who don’t know how to budget and save for a rainy day.
I grew up before there was health insurance. My folks always had a bill at the Dr.s office and Pharmacist's. They made payments every month, all year.
But, we survived and I have managed to prosper, without being born or married into privilege.
What can millionaires tell to poor women on how to live?

I love how the rich have the poor all figured out. As others have said - stay in school, get a degree in something worthwhile, get married, have a couple of kids. The majority of “poor women” dropped out, got pregnant (more than once), daddy gone, and expect the rest of us to pay for them.
We’ll probably do a “system restore” some day, but I fear it’ll make 1861-65 look like a knitting bee.
