Gov. John Kitzhaber said Thursday the state has hired a firm to conduct an independent review of what went wrong with Oregons troubled health insurance exchange.
Several states and the federal government have struggled with exchange technology, but none as much as Oregon. Cover Oregons online enrollment system still doesnt work more than three months after it was supposed to launch, and the state has hired or reassigned hundreds of workers to manually process applications. Officials say they hope the online system will be operational by March.
The state will pay First Data Government Solutions LP $228,000 to conduct the review, which is expected to begin later this month and take about six weeks. The review seeks to determine when officials began to realize the website wouldnt launch on time; why the state chose to use Oracle Corp. products and consulting services; how the projects scope was determined; and who was responsible for making decisions about the project.

What’s another 200K+ down the hole to figure out why it failed.
“Doesn’t work”, now that’s really, really racist.
I know- I write software for a living
There is NO WAY to ‘fix’ a multimillion dollar software fiasco with $200K and questions about ‘who decided this or that’
IT has been my experience that it costs TWICE AS MUCH to ‘fix’ a broken software system than it would to re-write it from scratch.
Because in order to fix it you have to first try to understand what you have- which is nearly impossible when the system is this broken
Oregon Ping....we made the news again...wonder if they know about the “auditor” that they didn’t listen to, and so have now hired ANOTHER auditor????
give peace a chance Matt
but “The Credible Juan Williams” said that millions and millions crashed the system in early October. wouldn’t that mean that by now 10 million people would of signed up?
Incredible.
I think the FReepers in Oregon could make this work!
If you would like more information about Oregon, please FReepmail me. I lost my Oregon list when my computer crashed last month.
Hey Larry Ellison: Looks like it’s about time to stop sailing, get back to the office and prepare some serious CYA.
POS!
Major bump. You got it exactly right. Been there done that before retirement. Now, reading about all these cases of trouble make me want to take a nap :)
Oregon voted for Obama in both elections, and yet they refuse to create a properly working Obamacare website. What a bunch of hypocrites!
