The Weather Channel goes dark on DirecTV
WattsUpWithThat.com ^ | 13JAN2014 | Anthony Watts

Posted on 01/13/2014 9:21:48 PM PST by Jack Hydrazine

The Weather Channel feed was switched to show WeatherNationTv just after midnight EST January 14th. the TWC logo is there still in the DirecTV channel lineup, but the content is WeatherNation.

See the proof, this screencap off my TV at 9:02PM PST (12:02 AM EST):

TWC appears to be a tad bit upset that Direct TV has dropped them. TWC on-camera folks were urging their 39 viewers to DEMAND they be returned to Direct’s lineup.

I presume Direct got tired of their global warming rants and the fact that they never really did the weather anymore. Apparently, Direct was receiving many complaints that TWC only broadcasts 30 minute filmed packages and then over and over, ad nauseum.

I had DirecTV 2005-2009. I never watched The Weather Channel because they didn’t have local weather, which I could look up on weather.com. Did that ever change?

I also didn’t need to watch The Weather Channel because I lived in an area where weather could be determined by looking at a calendar.

WeatherNation is owned by Direct TV itself. The Weather Channel is owned by NBC/Universal, and is completely on the NBC-dictated Globo-warmin’ propaganda bandwagon.

I just came from canada for Christmas/New year. Same schtick. However, they don’t lecture you about glowbull warming. They can’t really do it when it’s always snowing all over the country LOL

What is ironic is that many of the 30 minute packages TWC showed were made in Canada, especially the fireworks shows and shows about the guy who owned the C47 aircraft in northern Canada (an interesting series I thought. Rather difficult to push GW when it is 50 below although the TWC folks tried.

“Glowbull” is right on the mark!

I’ve never seen what they are broadcasting since I don’t have a TV but from what I have read they just report the weather similar to the way the Weather Channel used to do it before they were bought out by NBC.

TWC demanded more money from DirectTV. DirectTV said no.

Then TWC tried to petition congress to force DirectTV to carry TWC by claiming it was a public safety issue...

I hope DirectTV drops them permanently as a result.

TWC only owns a 30% stake in The Weather Network in Canada and has no say in operations; the controlling shareholder is Canadian. Their website provides excellent forecasts.

Go to NOAA.gov and get more accurate weather forcasting.

The meterologist, Norm Colman, that started the Weather Channel, quit discusted when they srarted their global warming crap.

This is kind of funny and shrewd move - just put another weather related channel (probably one more like the way the Weather Channel used to be) in the exact same position on the dial as TWC that has gotten dropped...bet most won’t even miss them...and it tosses their “safety” argument out the window.

This is sort of like how Time Warner Cable a couple of years ago had local channels drop them for not paying higher fees and they just put affiliates of the same networks from other media markets into the same slot on the dial so most people didn’t even notice.

They can’t drop it. It would be akin to HIGH TREASON, in today’s world.

It:
1) pimps the gay agenda.
2) pimps the global warming bs.
3) pimps the liberal agenda.
...is owned by a 4) black, 5) democrat-supporting, 6) woman.

It’s a real hit with the media types, and that is all that matters. Advertisers are forced to support it, lest they be branded A) Racist, B) Woman-haters, C) Homophobic.

I got so sick and tired of the ridiculous shows (i.e.)hunting for gems, global warming, etc. that I quit watching it. The only good thing was the ability to check on your hometown’s weather on demand and I can find the same information and more on the computer.

I hope this channel sticks with the weather and doesn’t try to hatch weather personalities ad nausea like the Weather Channel did. I have contacted the new channel with my sentiments.

If only Comcast would drop them too.

That said I admit to watching the probably now canceled Iceberg Hunters. FWIW all of TWC "reality programming" should have been on other channels.

On Comcast TWC also has a local weather only channel, weatherscan IIRC. Of course Comcast being Comcastic doesn't provide that on the lower tiers so it's pretty much useless.

I don’t pay for TV so I would never notice. Most of out TV viewing is with Chromcast and local news over the air. $1,200 a year seems an awfully high price to pay for what can be had for free.

Watched weather channel continuously while laid up in the hospital. The nurses called me the weatherman. That was then and weather and weather stories was it. I quit the weather channel when they started in on the (news) a year or two ago?
Msnbc nbc explains the ruination of this. I will never watch again. Along about this time FOX NEWS added weather.

Does not seem too accurate here, sorry to say. No offence. Weather Underground (wunderground.com) works the best for this location, although YMMV. For a remote location such as where I am at currently, it works quite well, although like most all forecasting sites it does seem to change its forecasts often enough that it seems to necessitate daily rechecks.

For daily forecasts, however, it seems to work quite well. Even forecast an overnight rain event recently that I never would have guessed about given the clear skies that evening. Much better than Accu-Weather, who always got it wrong.

There was a time when I’d occasionally watch TWC – until they changed their format. They had “Local on the Eights”, local current and next day’s weather with radar. No more. Like you I now us Weather.com.
