Please allow me to offer my summation of the "unicorn mentality" that is Obamacare!

In 2009, at the height of the O'Care debate, we traveled to Santa Cruz, California. The "hippy" atmosphere was a bit of a turnoff for me - too many people accepting menial work, so they can be free to live the "good life". At restaurants, shops, tourist traps - we were waited on by kids (not all young) who looked like they should be beyond the waitress/waiter/store clerk stage in their careers. I felt like most of them were probably college grads who just didn't want to enter the 9 to 5 work world. That's their choice, no skin off my back.

On the third day, a Tuesday, we drove to a park, high above a favorite surfing spot. It was about 11:00 in the morning. We watched dozens of surfers, doing their thing, taking occasional breaks from the surf to sit on the cliffs and smoke a joint/drink a beer. Their ages seemed to range from the twenties to the fifties. I was a little surprised that so many "adults" could afford to be at the beach in the middle of the day. Then it hit me. They choose to wait tables at night so they can surf all day. AND, since they earn so little, WE WOULD SOON BE BUYING THEM HEALTH INSURANCE!

The one thing that used to keep people in the work world was health insurance. Obamacare has remedied that (as if it was some kind of curse). Now, they don't have to worry. If they don't work hard or choose to work in a menial job, they will have free health insurance, thanks to those who do work hard at tough jobs!

“””I didnt notice they were gay.””””

I deduced that from the very first sentence.

“...my partner and I...”

Normal people don’t talk like that.

I guessed the same as you. It’s antiHIV medication he wants to send the rest of us the bill for.

All so he can chase midlife crisis unicorns and eat midlife crisis skittle poops.

He wants to be 18yrs old again. Old enough to have fun but with a nice safe hammock (ie, parents) there just in case things get too tough. Like paying for the medication his antiHIV medication.

State partially controlled Medical Insurance is Socialism, where competition is allowed.

State totally controlled Medical Insurance is Communism, where competition is not allowed.

Socialist Medical Insurance constitutes a partial violation of US Anti-Trust Laws.

Communist Medical Insurance constitutes a full violation of US Anti-Trust Laws.

Senator Harry Reid supports a single payor Medical Insurance system, totally controlled by the US Federal Government.

We want the ACA to work; the previous status quo certainly did not.

Sure it did. He as much as says so in the article.

A simple change in the law requiring insurers to offer plans to people with pre-existing conditions would have solved the only problem the author and his, ahem, "partner" seem to have had with "the previous status quo".

And it would have solved that problem without burdening ALL of us with the millions of NEW problems Obamacare has created.

Not exactly.

He is treating his “husband” as if they are not married. If they were married, they would both be on Steve’s plan.
Steve was trying to get Miles to do everything wrong to make a point. Miles should have been on Steve’s plan OR on Medicaid.
Steve, you fought the law and the law won. It’s science. You can’t argue with science.

If your intention is to turn off readers STOP!

And how, pray tell, can my comment, which came after the article, persuade people not to read it, or perhaps you are simply implying that fellow readers don't have a mind of their own and can choose to read it or not, regardless of what you or I have to say about it?

Furthermore, don't command me to do anything or forbid me to say anything I want to say, within the rules of F.R.

Many articles concerning the subject of this article have been posted at F.R., I infer what it's about from reading the comments and decided for myself, not to read what a queer has to say on the subject.

Thank you so much for finding and posting this.

Of course people like her (she worked at Politico?) would never tune into Mark Levin, but here’s what “the great one” says, like a broken record, about obamacare.

Paraphrasing, it’s a utopian statist DREAM, that will never work because, it is an impossibility. It cannot work. Never could, can’t, never will.

IF ONLY she knew that.

She still doesn’t know it. She’s mad at everyone involved because it hasn’t worked and she’s been through such an ordeal and built her whole life around it’s promises.

But no, she would never listen to Mark Levin tell her the simple, inescapable truth.

She’s been brainwashed throughout her life to believe in the veracity of such utter nonsense.

Thats what I was thinking. Although this author is a disgusting queer, he is fairly inteligent. If inteligent people are having a hard time, think about the stupid people that can barely tie their shoes.
Of course, most of them are too high to even care about insurance and just show up at the ER with no intention of paying any bill.

The main reason RATcare is so expensive is packers.

Who do you think they are talking about when they say “those with ‘pre-existing conditions’ “?

Status symbol “pre-existing conditions” of their own making, I might add.

I know that feeling, to want to prolong living adulthood as long as possible, while you are still young.

Its also possible that they got degrees in things that there are few jobs in.

However working a job like waiter or fry cook or grocery clerk being on feet all day gets less and less fun every decade older.

Good point. If they’re REALLY married then their rates would be based on their joint income.

I suspect, though, that they are “married” when it is convenient for them to be “married”, but just “partners” when it’s time to leach off the state.

Good Lord! How can an adult human being be this naive? I'm sorry, but there is no excuse for this level of ignorance. Adults have no excuse for not understanding the nature of government. If it wasn't taught in school, read a book. If you can't read a book, observe the DMV or the Post Office.

Again, good Lord! What is wrong with these people?

I read this article all the way through. I have no idea why. I have no idea how any sane person could endure this Kafkaesque nightmare, yet the author seems to have blithely plodded ahead.

I'm still having trouble absorbing this. No wonder Obama still has 40% approval ratings. You could beat these people to death with a hammer, and they'd still support him.

Cool, a brain teaser...

I am thinking of a drug that could be confused as brand/generic, that would cost $438/mth brand but might also be available for $15/mth under another name. Not HIV, that would be at least 2k/mth, and more than one drug. Not herpes, that would be much cheaper and everyone knows there’s generics.

My guess is some form of testosterone, like Androgel, or an ADD med like Adderall XR.

The ‘essence’ about these people is this. One of them is on fairly expensive antiHIV medication. That’s been his reason for keeping stable and profitable employment. Obamacare has freed him from all that and now WE get to pay for his antiHIV medication. While HE gets to enjoy a nice midlife crisis ‘adventure’ with his ‘partner’.

What’s even more important is that for all the storm and fury about legalizing gay marriage they don’t seem to be willing to get married so he can just get on his ‘partner’s’ plan. Nope, making the rest of us pay is the whole point.

If the service provider is private and the relationship between him and his customer is highly regulated and government controlled, it is fascism.

If the service provider IS the government, it is socialism.

ZeroCare is a textbook case of fascism. Single payer is a textbook case of socialism.

Be that as it may, this is a SMALL percentage of the American population - the WHOLE POINT (and reason I posted this tome) is that if this educated, highly motivated and eventually not-to-be-thwarted Obamanoid who knows who to contact to get information has this much trouble, the average American is up the creek and looking for someone to blame.

And here we find one of the main constituencies for Obamacare: homosexuals who want their expensive AIDS treatments and medications covered by the rest of us.

Here we also find the reason for demanding gay marriage: so that an HIV+ man can "marry" a man with a good employer-provided health plan, and thus be covered.

The WHOLE POINT is to gin up support for single payer.

This is nothing but a screed against the insurance companies.

Which is completely on target for the talking points right now.

The sneaky admission that MEDICAID would have been a better choice for his ‘partner’ was the underlying reason for the whole screed.

Those evil insurance companies will never be able to compete with medicaid. How can you compete with FREE?

Next step, medicaid for all...

Of course ‘obamacare’ took a lot of hits. It was supposed to. It will be burned and ditched by the side of the road before it’s over with.

Obamacare wasn’t the end, it was the means to the end. Single payer.

Obamacare was the tool they will use to absolutely torch the private insurance industry. Once they’re gone we’ll have no choice but single payer.

Bingo.

And the system they were trying to navigate - upscale and motivated as they were - will never work.

Because it can’t.

Obamacare has broken the system we had of making such private sector decisions work. It was a complex system but it was not directed from “on high” and it muddled through sometimes but it worked.

Like Levin and others have said, in using a simple pencil as example, if the federal gov’t were put in charge of pencils from beginning to end, what has worked with the making and distribution of pencils would totally break down.

So if the feds cannot handle a system for pencils, how does any sane person expect them to do THIS!?

And CW, your point is about the people trying to navigate this.

Either way, IT IS AN IMPOSSIBILITY.
