Harry Reid's Obstructionism [MSM has noticed]
National Review ^ | January 14, 2014 | Andrew Stiles

".............Reid’s tight control of the amendments process has become a point of contention in the debate over unemployment benefits, which he’d like to extend without providing funding for the program. After signaling that he would not allow any Republican amendments on a bill to temporarily extend the benefits, Reid appears to be backing down, however begrudgingly. “I am open to considering a reasonable number of relevant amendments to [the bill], if that’s what it takes to end Republican obstruction,” he said Monday on Twitter.

Allowing a “reasonable number of relevant amendments” from the minority party has not always been considered a concession in the Senate. It was once referred to as “regular order.” Despite Reid’s claims that he has been “very generous with amendments,” the number of amendment votes per year (not counting non-binding budget amendments, which by law cannot be limited) has declined from 218 in 2007, when Reid became majority leader, to 67 in 2013. Since July of last year, Republicans have been allowed a grand total of four amendments.

Some of Reid’s defenders have justified his hostility toward amendments by arguing that he is simply trying to protect vulnerable Democrats from having to vote on politically challenging but ultimately meaningless ones, such as a GOP proposal to repeal Obamacare’s individual mandate. In order to avoid these votes, they argue, Reid has been forced to block all amendments through a process known as “filling the tree.”............

Maybe they should revisit the “Ted Cruz government shutdown”.

What I'll never understand is;

These people .. the "journalists' get a paycheck from someone, and those paychecks come with stubs, and those stubs show a progressive increase in taxes from their NOT INCREASING AT THE SAME RATE AS THE DEDUCTIONS paychecks.

Sooner or later someone's gonn'a have to say, "Now .. wait just a damned minute here .... what the hell's going on ?"

At least I want to THINK someone might.

State partially controlled Medical Insurance is Socialism, where competition is allowed.

State totally controlled Medical Insurance is Communism, where competition is not allowed.

Socialist Medical Insurance constitutes a partial violation of US Anti-Trust Laws.

Communist Medical Insurance constitutes a full violation of US Anti-Trust Laws.

Senator Harry Reid supports a single payor Medical Insurance system, totally controlled by the US Federal Government.

I’m not sure if that’s ‘cognitive dissonance’ or ‘normalcy bias’. In a SHTF scenario that sort of think makes you a candidate for being D.E.A.D.

Well, golly gee, maybe Mitch McConnell shouldn’t have agreed to cede so much power to the position of Majority Leader (because he expected to be wielding that power by now!).

Despite Reid’s claims that he has been “very generous with amendments,” ...

Tyrants always believe that they are generous.

Nope. It’s for the party. The only thing that changes the mind and politics of these people is getting physically abused by the people they support. In other words, until their hand is bitten by the ones they feed, it is 24x7 Ohhhhhbahhhmaaaaaaaaa.

If Chryl Adkinnson or Jim Angle didn’t teach these people anything, then nothing will.

New day, same old tune, Harry.

That said, I do like the idea of limited amendments. It keeps the bill clean, and provides less air cover for the politician.
