Astronomy expert: Meteor likely in Upstate New York, but was it caused by Comet ISON?

Oswego, NY -- Upstate New Yorkers who heard a loud boom or saw a streak of light across the sky Sunday more than likely witnessed a meteor, according to an astronomy expert.

View full size Did a piece of Comet ISON reach Upstate New York? In this photo provided by NASA, a contrast-enhanced image produced from the Hubble images of comet ISON taken April 23, 2013 reveals the subtle structure in the inner coma of the comet. In this computer-processed view, the Hubble image has been divided by a computer model coma that decreases in brightness proportionally to the distance from the nucleus, as expected for a comet that is producing dust uniformly over its surface. ISON's coma shows enhanced dust particle release on the sunward-facing side of the comet's nucleus, the small, solid body at the core of the comet. This information is invaluable for determining the comet's shape, evolution, and spin of the solid nucleus.

"It definitely sounds like a meteor," said Scott Roby, associate professor of astronomy and planetarium director at the State University College at Oswego.

Thanks! I think we’re likely to encounter more in the next few days as we transition ISON’s entry trail of debris. Then there is another chance in the fall when the earth transitions the space inline with where ISON made it’s turn around the sun.

Ison's inbound trail is still to be crossed, mostly from Jan12th-19th of 2014.

Here's an update on the direction of incoming fireballs and debris from Ison.

I saw a nice-sized one at 4:25am yesterday on the way to work.. big enough to make a wish on. In Austin.

Fools!! It was not a comet!
I bring you a warning: Everyone of you reading this, tell the world, tell this to everybody wherever they are. Watch the skies. Everywhere. Keep looking. Keep watching the skies.
