Who Does the GOP Really Have To Run Against Hillary in 2016? (Writer is a RINO)
Daily Beast ^ | January 14, 2014 | Myra Adams

Posted on 01/14/2014 1:08:06 PM PST by C19fan

As a Republican hoping that my party will retake the White House in 2016, I watched with intense interest as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie talked and talked and talked his way out of ”Bridgegate.”

.......................................................

But what I am referring to is the Herculean task set before Christie of winning the 2016 Republican nomination given that the conservative wing and primary-controlling base voters are ferociously anti-Christie for numerous political and policy reasons, among them Medicaid expansion and gun control just for starters.

I first ran across Myra Adams when she was at PJMedia. She was a McCain supporter in 2008 and a Romney-bot in 2012. She is back for 2016 in the tank for Christie. She has written the same basic article, just change the GOP name from McCain to Romney to Christie and change the Democratic from Obama to Clinton, that only GOPe candidates can win. For some reason the results from the past two POTUS elections has not lead her to reconsider her position. I guess she found a home at the RINO reservation at The Daily Beast along with David Frum and Stuart Stevens. She should feel right at home.

I have a hunch that the same powers that stopped Hillary 6 years ago, will stop her again. I do not believe these people want the Clintons back. I am watching for a new young star in the democrat to be hyped in the near future. I could be quite wrong of course, as I often, but I have a feeling that the Clintons will not be back.

Whom do we have, really, who could get through the media gauntlet???

No one.

If Palin couldn’t do it, Cruz can’t.

Not one of us is tough enough or has a pulpit from which to fight the media. Forget “running a true conservative.” He or she can’t get their voice out. If they haven’t started trying to reach around the mainstream and talk to Americans by today, we are left with no one.

The GOP can run anyone against Hillary in 2016 and win in a monster landside. This assumes Hillary is still alive and wins the DNC primary herself. Not as many people like Hillary as the media thinks.

Well.. Cruz is great for conservatives, but America is a center-left country. The media painted Cruz as a nutcase and the culprit for the government shutdown. It’s a battle of the narratives and currently the prevailing narrative is Hillary is some great savior who will have more success shoving Obama’s “hope and change” agenda down our throats. The only potential showstopper for Hillary would be her health. Look for the dems to then push a leftist Hispanic to take her place.

If Cruz decides to run, I think he can win it.

He's not the only hope for a conservative candidate, but I think he would be the best. He fights, he handles negative media interviews (thus negative debate moderators) extremely well.

He's also quite capable of putting forth a compelling case for conservative values, much like Reagan did.

Forget “running a true conservative.” He or she can’t get their voice out. If they haven’t started trying to reach around the mainstream and talk to Americans by today, we are left with no one.

The fifth-column MSM is engaged in replacing the campaign and election process by restricting the access of conservatives to the public. This restriction is done by limiting the type of coverage given to leading conservatives to the trivial, the shocking, the (unsubstantiated) gossip, and the biased and edited interview.

If Palin couldn't do it, Cruz can't

I disagree. Palin was not ready for prime time. She was stuck with being under the control of McCain, so much so that she even supported him for re-election to the US Senate. She hadn't seen anything of politics outside of Alaska.

Ted Cruz doesn't have any of those negatives. He's articulate, he's intelligent, he can bring people around to understanding why the US needs a constitutional conservative in office.

Then look at mistakes Romney made that Cruz wouldn't. Romney backed off on Benghazi as a campaign issue; Cruz wouldn't. Romney didn't even try to win over almost half of the voters; Cruz impressed everyone with those 21 hours.

I think Cruz and the group that stand by him could put together a real interesting, energetic campaign. I suspect he'd win.....just about everyone, both parties, is fed up with the has beens running the show.

....a wise old warrior like Dick Cheney...

Would lose the election for him for sure. People are sick of the warmongering, and Cheney is connected with that. Like I stated earlier, people have had it with the has beens.

Rand Paul?....I don't agree with Rand Paul on everthing. But for a tag team that entertained and articulated what needs to change, they'd get it done. They seem to bring out the best in each other.

I said Cruz would need someone with experience and wisdom in foreign affairs to balance him out. Screw the leftist-created "warmonger" BS. Whoever fills the shoes would need to be capable of explaining the challenges we face abroad to the American people.

Are you her spokesman? Don’t forget for one second that while everyone else is playing checkers, she is playing 3D chess There was a story on FR earlier today where Sarah Palin said it would be great to have two women run in 2016.

If I were a betting man, I’d say the nominees could be SWMNBN vs. Bush or Christie, with a third party splintering off. The third party will outpoll the RINOs and kill the GOP. SWMNBN will NOT be elected.

Of course, all bets are off if Elmer Fudd overthrows what’s left o the republic.

Well.. Cruz is great for conservatives, but America is a center-left country.

I disagree with your analysis. America is a skull-full-of mush country that has lost its way and handed itself over to the leftist activists in government, academia and the media.

But the thing is, the leftist model is failing miserably on every front -- Obama the Messiah is now just Obama the Mess, the economy is in shambles, our national security is completely compromised, our military strength has been severely reduced along with our global credibility, while our potential enemies make aggressive moves against us with impunity, and our healthcare system is being destroyed.

America's youth now sees the left not as the new visionary revolutionaries, but as the tired, overbearing, mean-spirited, oppressive establishment.

How hard is it to campaign against a government which claims that it has to pass laws so we can see what's in them, when you can offer instead a visionary return to America's proven birthright of liberty and the dynamism that made us the strongest, freest, most prosperous and innovative country in the world for more than a century?

It would be very easy to mount a winning campaign against the shambles of leftist central planning, for people who understand what is at stake, what direction our nation needs to take, and how to articulate the message.

The GOPe RINOs cannot win the election against a Hillary or whomever the Dems pick because 1) they have unclean hands, and 2) they are unable to articulate the very attractive conservative American value proposition -- liberty, limited government, economic freedom and prosperity. RINOs stand for nothing at all, and are not able to differentiate themselves from the Democrats.

But a passionate, brilliant, accomplished, young conservative like Ted Cruz -- who is able to articulate the conservative vision, and is not afraid to call out the leftists in the government, media and academia for what they are -- would be a very compelling figure in the national election.

A positive, principled fight for conservatism backed by an energized grass roots and a coherent message about the failure of the totalitarian left, combined with artfully frank, aggressive attacks as needed on the biggest villains of the American downfall -- Obama, Pelosi, Reid, the media and the tired old lefties in America's increasingly discredited colleges and universities -- that's what will resonate with the American voter, even in our modern benighted age.

If I am wrong, then America is truly gone, and it makes no difference what leftist freak wins the election.

But if I'm right, America now has a sudden opportunity for the first time in years to slay the leftist dragon, and conservatives have the opportunity to step up to be the good guys against the establishment totalitarian villains.

That is, if conservatives come together and recognize that this is NOT the time to back down, to compromise, to "reach across the aisle," but to fight as if our lives, our freedom and our country's survival depend upon it. Because that is what's at stake.

On this we totally disagree. Cheney or anyone else associated with Bush 2 would doom anyone’s campaign. The wars are just too unpopular, and I suspect people are ready to retreat back to within our borders. And even if the globalists are not, the inevitable collapse of the global economy will make it inevitable.

First of all, I meant someone LIKE a Dick Cheney. The guy is, what, 73 or 74 years old now? We need someone who is strong in foreign affairs. Someone who understands the Russia and ChiCom threat in addition to the more recent islamo-nazi threat. You would have us concede to the communist propagandists who put it into the minds of our people that war should be off the table. We need a stronger than ever military with Russia and the Chicoms each planning to make moves. They've been holding now annual joint military exercises since 2005 in preparation for a confrontation with the west. Should we just ignore this threat?

As she says, she would have liked Rick Perry more if he'd been a competent candidate. And I'd have to bet she was a Bush supporter.

So what she wants is a candidate with name-recognition and more widespread mainstream appeal, rather than somebody whose support mostly comes from those demanding ideological purity. That's not so strange or repellent a point of view, is it?

Like a lot of people -- like me -- she points out that you can't win if you don't actually have a candidate. Look, the lady runs a mail order operation called The Jesus Store. If she's GOP elite or establishment, then those words don't have any meaning anymore.

Great post, not as convinced as you are, but it’s great to read.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

But maybe this 2-day old Boston Globe article will help you be convinced just a little bit more:

Obama’s grip on younger voters slips

This article documents what is an extraordinary opportunity to blow the left and the Democrats out of power for a generation.

The GOPe is absolutely unable to take advantage of this situation. It will completely blow this chance, because all it can do is feed the existing cynicism of the millennial generation.

Only the "renegade" conservative movement is in a position to capitalize on this extraordinary opportunity.
