Kerry: 'Root Cause of Terrorism' Is Poverty 'In many cases...' Jeryl Bier January 15, 2014 7:12 AM

Secretary of State John Kerry covered a broad range of topics with his counterpart Pietro Parolin at the Vatican in Rome on Monday. Besides Syria, the Middle East peace process, Sudan, and Cuba, the subject of poverty came up during their discussions.

In remarks following the meeting, Kerry linked poverty not only to terrorism, but to the "disenfranchisement of millions" [emphasis added]:

We talked about the common interest of Pope Francis and President Obama in addressing poverty and extreme poverty on a global basis. The United States of America is deeply involved in efforts in Africa and in other parts of the world – in Asia, South Central Asia – to address this poverty, as is the Catholic Church. And so we have a huge common interest in dealing with this issue of poverty, which in many cases is the root cause of terrorism or even the root cause of the disenfranchisement of millions of people on this planet.

Kerry's statement echoes comments he made in October 2013 at the Global Counterterrorism Forum after terrorist attacks in both Nairobi, Kenya, and Peshawar, Pakistan: "Getting this right isn’t just about taking terrorists off the street. It’s about providing more economic opportunities for marginalized youth at risk of recruitment."

It’s a cultural issue.

Islam causes most terrorism today. It is commanded in the Koran.

Terrorism is a tool - used by people who can’t use martial force.

They’d use military might if they still could,
but due to the economic poverty caused by their culture,

they cannot afford the force necessary to mount a direct military attack on free nations.

Back when hitech was horses and camels and swords,
they used military force to impose their beliefs on others.

Pope decries poverty, world goes crazy.

Pope decries abortion, crickets chirp.

It’s not possible to be this stupid. This has to be deliberate deceit.

Read their “holy” book - there’s your answer.

Too bad Kerry got an apology from Israel. Sorry to hear that this morning.

Saudi Arabia is pretty damn wealthy as is Iran...plus, most terrorist organizations are either self funded, like Al Qaeda, or state funded, like Hezbollah...the comment by Kerry continues to impress the fact that he doesn’t know what he is talking about - or is trying to sway people over that he knows what he is talking about and not to question him...

The past performance of the Obama Admin and that of Kerry’s tainted history would suggest that no one should listen to anything he has to say and when he does talk - question every word!

Kerry is a traitor to the U.S. - that simple little fact should be first when evaluating this political f**k up! He’s an arrogant POS - plain and simple...

"Root Cause of Terrorism' Is Poverty"

Maybe, maybe not. There's no question, though, that the root cause of terrorism AND poverty in Muslim countries is the Muslim religion. This means that 'The root cause of terrorism is Mohammad.'

They may indeed be creating domestic terrorism.

What recourse do the people have when the IRS is used as a political weapon, the investigative enforcement agency is headed up by a huge supporter of the person that encouraged the use of the IRS in this manner,
no victims were contacted for interviews,
and the case concludes quickly with “no criminal behavior was found”?

If Kerry & I were lost in the woods, & Kerry said the way home was right I’d go left every time. He is a rock steady compass always pointing the wrong way.

Can you imagine how great & prosperous this nation would be if we never had politicians like Kerry. Much of our prosperity & potential has been wasted by men such as he.

Some islamic leader in Israel a number of years ago made a comment to the effect that they weren’t launching attacks because they wanted to be given anything or helped in any way, but were attacking because they wanted to kill us. I can’t find the quote now.

- GUNS : Fables/Legends of the Old West :

Between the end of the Civil War and 1900 (35 years) the number of people killed with firearms on the Frontier (west of the Applachian Mountains) was under 100 people -

In New York City there were more than 100 killed with guns every year.

Exactly correct. In 99% of the cases, modern terrorism is a tool to promote jihad. Jihad is not an aberration of Islam. It is one of the core tenets of Islam. It has been so for 1500 years.

We can at least be thankful he didn’t claim terrorism is caused by racism.
