Between 2002 and 2012, federal agencies spent more than half a trillion dollars ($688 billion) on payments that should never have been made. Every year, according to their own recordkeeping, the agencies that administer major federal programs are now paying out more than $100 billion dollars improperly, and even though theyre aware of the problem, they recover only a tiny fraction for taxpayers. This adds up to huge losses for the U.S. Treasury. To put that in perspective, thats almost $16 billion more than the highly controversial budget sequester wound up cutting from government spending in 2013.

I’m sure the responsible government “employees” have been appropriately disciplined. I also have a nice bridge for sale.
Well then, it’s a good thing they took back that $6 billion (over 10 years) promised to military retirees. We gotta cut somewhere...
Where do I go to sign up for this?
The damn asshats can always find time to cut military pay and other military spending... F ‘em!!!
If they admit to $100 billion in yearly screw-ups, then how large is the actual figure?
And how many of these “mistakes” are paid out, year after year, to the same scammers?
Well, DUH!
All those altruistic sounding Foundations, PACs and organizations that receive that government money lead right back to pockets in Washington D.C.!
Why would they want to stop it?
$100 billion here, $100 billion there - pretty soon you’re talking about real money.
Isn’t this a major boost for the economy?

Not to worry...Oblamer has a laser-focus on the case (since 2010) and will not rest...blah...blah...blah..
Today, the President will sign into law the Improper Payment Elimination and Recovery Act (IPERA), an important step toward realizing the Presidents new goal of reducing wasteful, improper payments by $50 billion between now and 2012.
In 2009, improper payments totaled nearly $110 billion, the highest amount to date. These include payments made in error or because of fraudulent claims by contractors and organizations as well as benefits sent to individuals who are dead or in jail.
In fact, over the past three years, federal auditors have reported that the government paid out benefits totaling more than $180 million to approximately 20,000 Americans who were dead; and more than $230 million in benefits to approximately 14,000 fugitive felons or those in jail and who are not eligible for benefits.
Yeah, and liberals want more federal government? To hell with MORE Federal Government!
Well, they’ve got to get the money for the Democrat party somewhere.
They make sure that the incorrect payments get to the correct people.
And just today, I was refused a rental car for my upcoming TDY that would have saved the gummit over $300 by letting me drive from Atlanta to Montgomery and back. Wrong color of money, apparently.
Stupid.
And this is “cut to the bone”????????
(as Nazi Pelosi said)
Criminal enterprise.
Years ago, when I was a Navy Disbursing Officer, the rule was that if there was a question of how much pay was due, pay the individual the lesser amount as it is always easier on the individual to give them more later than it was to recover an overpayment later on. (When in doubt, screw the member.) Years later working at the SSA the rule for SSI payments was when in doubt give the person the larger amount of money. Add to this the fact that once awarded the payments couldn’t be reduced. The big big push was to reduce the % of initial overpayments. Thus the total $s of overpayment would always go up. Even if reduced payment and recovery were allowed, how do you recover from someone who has nothing in the first place!
