what is viewed as a rush to the exits in the face of the Obamacare disaster and the Obama scandal machine bleeding into the 2014 mid-term elections, three prominent democrats in the U.S. Congress have announced their retirement this week.
On Monday, 40-year Capitol Hill veteran and Pelosi Democrat, George Miller (D-CA) called it quits. Miller, 68, has been in the House since 1974, the year of Watergate. Miller stated that he looked forward to one last year in Congress, fighting the good fight and then working in new venues on the issues that have inspired me. Miller also indicated that he was especially proud of passage of national health care reform.
On Tuesday, New York Democrat Bill Owens pulled the plug. Owens was vague in his excuse, stating that, It is time for me to undertake new endeavors and spend more time with my family. Owens came into office in 2009 after winning the well-publicized NY-23 special election. In 2012, Owens won re-election in the newly formed 21st congressional district, winning against Republican Matt Doheny by only two percentage points, 50% to 48%.
Then on Wednesday, Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) jumped ship announced his retirement. Moran explained little, simply stating its time to close this chapter of my life and move on to the next challenge. Moran is seen as one of the most abrasive and antagonistic members of Congress. The leftist Moran has been no stranger to his own scandals, or as Roll Call reported, his professional accomplishments were sometimes overshadowed by personal scandals.
This weeks announcements by Moran, Owens and Miller join other House Democrats, including Mike McIntyre (D-NC), and Jim Matheson (D-UT), who have also announced that they will not seek re-election. The exits of the congressional democrats is likely tied to their belief that 2014 offers little hope in their gaining majority in the House of Representatives.
Are they, their families, and their Staff,
now EXEMPT forever? ?
illegals, of course, why not?
California has an illegal who can now practice law legally.. and a legislative act to let it happen.
This is the trickle before the flood..
The Dems are reading the wrting on the wall, CA is not big game changer it used to be.
Seems our prospects of taking back Washington is improving daily. Wonder if the RNC can handle it, or will give this advantage away.
This article is insulting to flies. Flies are more advanced than democrats. Rather, the Dems are more akin to maggots.
Not all of these are safe Democrat seats. Look like Boehner will have a much larger majority to waste.
Good news about George Miller. I used to live in his district and I sent him a few emails back when he was trying to nationalize 401Ks. Of course the responses were that he was only concerned about the good and welfare of the people.
Like rats deserting a sinking ship? No offense to the species of rats intended. ;-)
hillary was a watergate prosecutor (one with ethics problems) perhaps he did not want to answer questions.
The only one that could be taken is the seat held by Owens. Those held by Miller and Moran are deep, deep, blue.
The first response is just what I think is the plan.
Pack Congress, lean left with the supers, hold the Atty Gen and EPA and NSA ... Y'gut'cha'self one frikkin' nation right there !
Only 68, only 40 years sitting on the Treasury, and he already considers himself rich enough?
Get ready for another whore, K Street.
They'd LOVE to have you comment and chatter about 'exempt', hell ... keep talkin' about impeachment and Benghazi and Fast and Furious.
After all this time, we should realize ... NOTHING will ever happen in those arena's ... but the enemy WANTS us to talk about them
It keeps us occupied while they continue to kill off America and incorparate communism in its place.
We USED TO make fun of the lady down at the DMV and the shit she'd put us through.
Multiply her exponentially, put her in high office and THAT'S what we have now.
Alex_W is correct.
When did TURDS gain the ability to flush themselves?
Let’s be positive for a second. Tea Party candidates will win many elections...RINOs and DIMs will lose to them.
if they are “deep deep blue”, then they are pink.
I suspect you are right, RINOs control the national scene...and tea party-ers are scorned. Since I live in NY state, my chances are slim to none anyway. (sigh)
It only means something when many Democrats in marginal districts retire. Most of the long serving Democrats retiring are solid Dem areas. They know GOP will hold the house, so no chance of regaining chairmanships.
