Skip to comments.Ben Sasse Unites Conservatives, But Runs Afoul of Mitch McConnell

Ben Sasse may be the most unique candidate running for the Senate this year.
He has united parts of the conservative movement that often, these days, find themselves on opposite sides. The Senate Conservative Fund supports him. RedState supports him. The Club for Growth supports him. Paul Ryan supports him. He has the National Review cover profile, joining both Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio in that honor.
But it is the support of the Senate Conservatives Fund, the Club for Growth, and other conservatives that has Ben Sasse on the wrong side of Mitch McConnell and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
This week, several people noticed the Sasses opponent would be raising money at the NRSCs offices. Washington lobbyists with McConnell ties, including McConnells old Chief of Staff, are in it to win it with Sasses opponent. I have a copy of the invitation.
Sasse, caught on YouTube last year, had demanded every Republican in Washington, starting with Mitch McConnell, show some actual leadership. This made McConnell very upset. Compounding that, Sasse got the support of the Senate Conservatives Fund. Jonathan Strong, at National Review, reported Sasse is collateral damage in McConnells war against the Senate Conservatives Fund.
In December, Jonathan Strong reported that Sasses opponent is getting help behind the scenes from Mitch McConnell.
At the start of 2014, we find McConnells former Chief of Staff, his lobbying friends, and the NRSC helping Ben Sasses opponent all because conservative groups McConnell does not like are supporting Ben Sasse.
So now we have two candidates one who has united conservatives across the center-right coalition in part because of his intelligent opposition to Obamacare and one who has united Mitch McConnell and his lobbyists against conservatives.

What state is Sasse running in?
“Paul Ryan supports him.”
Is that supposed to be in his favor?
Ditch McConnell IS foul.
yeah--talk about "one of these is not like the other..." weird to see Paul Ryan's name listed with the conservative supporters...
Ben Sasse has upset McConnell? I like him already.
paul ryan is a republican harry roid... or nazi peloser.
I’d rather see Ryan support him than Chinless McConnell.
Here's some of the record of the head of the Senate gopE wrongly messing in Republican U.S. Senate primary races ...
Nebraska: Osborn over Sasse
Texas: Dewhurst over Cruz
Indiana: Lugar over Mourdock
Utah: Bennett over Lee
Kentucky: Grayson over Paul
Florida: Crist over Rubio
Alaska: murKOWski over Miller
Pennsylvania: Specter over Toomey
And when he loses, he doesn't help the actual GOP primary winner. Go home Mitch. You're a loser.
Ryan knows that McConnell is a worn-out shoe.
Why is Sasse better than Shane Osborn?
"The Cruz/Rubio lesson for Senate campaigns is that the best candidates are those who have tea-party convictions and who are also talented and accomplished. Sasse, who has been endorsed by the Club for Growth and the Senate Conservatives Fund, is very much in that mold."
Thanks, I just wondered. I remembered Osborn from the P-3 that was rammed by the Chinese guy.
