There Will Be Blood: Oprah Not Nominated for an Oscar
National Review ^ | 1/16/14

Posted on 01/16/2014 10:36:46 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

When the 2014 Academy Awards nominees were announced early Thursday, all ears were attuned to the expected names. Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong’o, Cate Blanchett, Matthew McConaughey and Bruce Dern given nods in their respective categories? Check.

“Gravity,” “American Hustle” and “12 Years a Slave” dominating nominations for acting, writing, directing and best picture? No big surprises there, and all as it should be.

Then, you cry. No nomination for Robert Redford for his astonishing one-man show in the gripping seafaring thriller “All Is Lost”? Outrage! No Tom Hanks, who delivered such a subtle tour de force in “Captain Phillips”? The nerve! No Oprah Winfrey or Forest Whitaker for their superb performances in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”? Robbed, I tell you, robbed!. . .

Awwww. Poor Oprah is going to have to come to the realization that the public knows it’s all about her. It always is.

Hollywood is rasis. Oprah is supposed to win because she’s black. Just like barry did. If you can’t count on the melanin factor, what can you count on? This is an outrage!

I am somewhat involved in the industry and I don’t know one person who expected Oprah to get a nomination, and there will be no blowback from anyone.

Yep, there should be a melanin award simply because. Wait, there is affirmative action for that.

Is an academy award a right, or a privilege?

Maybe she can demand a Justice Department investigation. Might work.

She has no acting talent whatsoever, and imho, is a racist.

I mean, would two movies about oppression of black people be too much for the awards?

They're probably saving that for next year. There WILL be more films like this.

Remember how there was maybe one animated cutesy film every few years? Now there are lots of them. Too many, in fact.
Hollywood follows the trend as well as the Benjamins.

“12 Years a Slave” will win everything, and the Hollywood crowd will congratulate themselves on how not racist they are.

Want a conspiracy theory?

I’d wager at the Oprah/0bummer/Wookie pow-wow, the big 0bummer donors said to not nominate her because it would help 0bummer advance his causes of racism in the U.S. So, 0prah would take one for the team.

Yep, anything these days is possible.

The Oscars are mostly for behind the scenes technical people. Only four of the awards go to actors.

“(saying that lots of old white people need to just die so racism can end”

Foolish since the judges at the Academy are known to be a ‘bunch of old white people.’

Wha, wha, wha.

I’ve got friends who literally get riled up when they insist I should see what probably was a very good show.

Sadly, they promoted the horrible racism and human debasing that occurred in the movie as if it were fact and a documentary.

Once they were informed of the many errors and deceit they had bought they resorted to “It’s based on a real life story. Of course it’s not a documentary”

Then you have to insist that it was fairly gratuitous to show a rape and several other grotesque acts that never occurred and the movie is more “CrockUmentary” in its attempt to portray this fellow as someone who endured all these horrible things, rose to some esteemed station in the white house kitchen and this was the epilogue of that life.

Further, that Oprah suddenly had a racist act committed against her and the director went on some idiotic rant, savaging white people for all that is wrong and white folk are the alibi for the black person condition.

Gimme a break and I won’t watch was probably a decent movie for those reasons alone.
