State officials have agreed to pull the plug after spending $85 million on a tax computer system project that was supposed to handle the processing of tax forms and other tax information for years ahead.
A contract between the state and the CGI Group was canceled Friday.
The state and CGI mutually agreed to a final $5 million payment for unbilled work not yet paid and that will close out the contract, according to Trevor Johnson, a Revenue Department spokesman.
CGI had previously received $63.8 million for its work on the tax software project, which had been handling some aspects of the states tax processing but not the major ones. The state had spent about another $22 million on hardware, maintenance and other services related to the contract.

I’ve been on a lot of software projects. I cannot believe the cost. Way too much overhead.
I would guess that every project for most companies cost’s 70% percent too much.
They should never have made the final payment. Just goes to show that they do not have our (fiscal) concerns at heart. Jobs should be lost over that one.
Hmmm...CGI Group...sounds familiar...?
probably started under Perdue
Is this the Obamacare group?
probably started under Perdue
Who got paid...on both ends...would be interesting to know.
CGI needs to be nuked, from Space.

Make CGI sue for the final payment. Delay, forget, deny and pull all the tricks this company used to bilk us. The state should put up every barrier possible to avoid payment as long as possible and then appeal any ruling for the company until there are no appeals left and then drag their feet some more while claiming mixups and misunderstandings of the court orders.
Why we are playing fair with these con artists is beyond my understanding.
CGI is a business. They exist to make a profit. Governments are shooting cash out of a firehose in all directions, and that’s why companies are lining up with buckets. Why wouldn’t they?
