Record Number of People Attend SHOT Show, Pump $73 Million Into Vegas Economy

The 2014 Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show in Las Vegas has come to an end and this year was the most popular year yet. According numbers released Friday from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a record 67,000 people attended this year's show, beating last year's numbers by 5,000. The event pumped $73 million into the Las Vegas economy. More than 1600 companies participated in the week long event, filling up 13-acres of space.

"The State of our industry is renewed. More persons are entering the recreational shooting sports than ever before. More hunters, more target shooters, more women, more diverse groups, more licensed gun owners and, as you all know, more firearms sales," NSSF President and CEO Steve Sanetti said during the State of the Industry Dinner earlier this week. “Perhaps the best news of all is that, despite tremendous increases in these numbers, violent crime with firearms has decreased dramatically during the last five years, to early 1960s levels.”

In addition, NSSF raised $100,000 through a charity golf event with the PGA Tour for Birdies for the Brave for military homefront groups.

If you can’t fix the problem, there’s money to be had prolonging the problem.

Having the Senate Majority Leader beholden to you is a good thing as we all saw not too long ago.

I attended ShotShow, and I think there were more women in attendance this year, and also products geared for women, in which women had come up with ideas/designs for those products.

It’s nice to see products geared for women that have moved beyond concealed carry purses, and pink rifles, and pistols, and pink camo..

Still, it was mostly men who were there. I think the most enthusiastic women I saw were hanging out at Kvar/Arsenal.
What woman doesn’t want a briefcase that has a gun in the handle..or a knife that’s really a gun?

All those guns might kill everyone in Vegas if we’re not careful.

And that is pretty much how some of the TSA jerks at McCarran were acting towards "ShotShow attendees" on their way out of town.

Loud mouthed female Union Employee: "If any of you flying today have been at that Shotshow Gun Show are carrying guns and gun parts, this is illegal, and you will be arrested. Just get out of the line right now, and go downstairs."

The guy ahead of me had his "for longnecks only" beer can opener taken away because it had a handle kinda like a leatherman, but no leatherman type tools on it.

"I need a Supervisor over here" (then yells) "Supervisor, Supervisor, Supervisor" like they had just found a live grenade.

In my mind's eye, and apparently TSA person's, the hole that fits over the neck of the bottle could be used to pry someone's nose off once on the plane.
