The Stealth War on Abortion
Rolling Stone ^ | 1-15-2014 | Janet Reitman

Posted on 01/18/2014 4:30:22 PM PST by Darren McCarty

On the morning of December 11th, Gretchen Whitmer, the charismatic 42-year-old minority leader of the Michigan Senate, stood before her colleagues in the Statehouse in Lansing, and told them something she'd told almost no one before. "Over 20 years ago, I was a victim of rape," she said. "And thank God it didn't result in a pregnancy, because I can't imagine going through what I went through and then having to consider what to do about an unwanted pregnancy from an attacker."

No one in the gallery said a word. Instead, with just hours to go before it broke for Christmas recess, Michigan's overwhelmingly male, Republican-dominated Legislature, having held no hearings nor even a substantive debate, voted to pass one of the most punishing pieces of anti-abortion legislation anywhere in the country: the Abortion Insurance Opt-Out Act, which would ban abortion coverage, even in cases of rape or incest, from virtually every health-insurance policy issued in the state. Women and their employers wanting this coverage will instead have to purchase a separate rider – often described as "rape insurance." Whitmer, a Democrat known as a fierce advocate for women's issues, described the new law as "by far one of the most misogynistic proposals I've seen in the Michigan Legislature."

...................

"Right to Life of Michigan is looked upon by most Republican legislators – and probably some Democratic legislators – as one of the most coercive, if not the most coercive lobbying group in the state," says former U.S. congressman Joe Schwarz, a self-described pro-choice Republican who served 16 years in the Michigan Statehouse, from 1987 to 2002. "The amount of pressure Right to Life both directly and indirectly puts on legislators in Michigan is considerable. And some legislators aren't exactly profiles in courage when it comes to standing up to these guys."

I'll defend it. Killing babies is wrong. That's it.

I found this through an Mlive link, which is about the only way I'll even see anything tied to Rolling Stone. While there's a long ways to go, we're making some progress in protecting babies.

Of course they interview RINO Joe Schwarz. I help boot his sorry ass out of office in 2006 when Tim Walberg ran. It was a proud vote. You were fired because you supported killing babies and only ran against one conservative in 2006 instead for four in 2004. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Good ole Gretchen Whitmer. If she doesn't get her way she just yells "VAGINA" to get attention that way. Schwarz is just plain garbage.

How can it be stealth when they are complaining about pro-lifers not shutting up?

I saw this headline on the cover of Rolling Stone today. Anyone who buys event tickets through Ticketmaster gets subscribed to Rolling Stone. They'd probably have no subscribers otherwise.

Well, if I personally will not have an abortion under almost any circumstance (exception: where I would die without it, as in an ectopic pregnancy), and I use whatever method necessary to avoid pregnancy—then why on earth should I have to pay extra for health insurance to cover those using abortion as a form of birth control? If they don’t want to be responsible, let them pay for it.

It looks like Michigan is going in the right direction.

Many, many babies, conceived through a violent act of rape, have been carried to term, delivered alive and loved, the shame not compounded in their violent destruction.
The decision to take this path is, of course, a prerogative of the criminally violated woman, and those that have chosen to sustain and preserve innocent life generally are very glad they did so.

Abortion in the case of rape is killing.

Catholic Church teaching says in the case of rape and incest, abortion is wrong.

Because of that, there is much said and studies about this within the Church, journalists who work for Catholic publication spell it out:

Statistic show that rape victims who add murder to their trauma do not do as well as those who choose other avenues, and not just catholic women.

It IS against natural law to kill one’s own child.

Anyway, there is nothing stealth about the war against abortion.

The only stealth comes from the media who try to shut down discussion and truth.

"Women and their employers wanting this coverage will instead have to purchase a separate rider".

And this is a problem, WHY?

You want abortion coverage, pay for it yourself.

Kind of like how insurance policies under Obamacare MUST cover maternity care.

For a gay man, or an elderly couple they shouldn't have to buy such a policy.

Unless they want to.

I’m not going to outright accuse her but I wouldn’t be surprised if Gretchen Whitmer would lie about something like rape.

She’s Pelosi scale crazy and maybe a notch or two above.

The Culture of Abortion is male-dominated. It’s all about men not having to pay for the consequences of casual sex. Women who kill their babies suffer depression, suicidal thoughts, and eventually run a higher risk for breast cancer. Every time a baby is killed, an immature self-centered man cheers.

Thank you for saying what I have long believed. When Hefner and the sex revolution began, something had to be done to make the results of “free sex” disappear.

Either way, rapes happen all the time. Killing the baby doesn’t help and it lets the stupid rapist off the hook

“Abortion Insurance Opt-Out.”

So to understand Rolling Stone: Allowing Insurance Providers to opt out of covering Abortions is “one of the most punishing pieces of anti-abortion legislation anywhere in the country.”

I love how they can’t even be consistent with the “her body, her choice” crap. Everyone else has to take responsibility for her “choice” by paying for her Abortion, but nobody can have any say about it.

I couldn’t read very many paragraphs of the pro-baby-killer’s article before I became nauseous acknowledging people actually believe the way this author writes.

I don’t believe a women can put having been raped (what a horrible nightmare!) behind her any more easily if she kills the baby than if she carries it to full term.

But, then again, I’m a man/pig/dog/whatever.

The pro-kill crowd uses rape to justify the case for all abortion.

Whitmer's dad was a big shot at Blue Cross.

I wonder how much money the Whitmers made off of abortion insurance.
