Obama Can’t Help Dems Keep Senate
Commentary Magazine ^ | Jan 15, 2014 | Jonathan S Tobin

President Obama understands the stakes in the midterm elections all too well. If Republicans take back the Senate in November that will give them a stranglehold on both Houses of Congress and ensure that the president will get nothing passed in his final two years in office.

The White House is right that even in red states Democrats often prosper by playing the populist card on big business and abuse of the poor. Obama’s proposals for increasing the minimum wage and lengthening unemployment benefits may be economic snake oil, but they poll well everywhere.

The only person who can help the Democrats keep the Senate and regain the House is John Boehner. When Bonehead and his sidekick Ryno give illegal aliens amnesty to satisfy their Chamber of Commerce masters, conservatives will stay home as in 2006 and 2012. Watch it happen. Gallup says just 3% of those polled rate immigration reform as the number one problem facing us; but the House GOPe just doesn’t give a Shiite what we think.

Get nothing past them??????? Say what???? They agree and go right along with him. The RINOs will only become a Socialist Dimocrat Party Lite. They will give him what he wants or he will totally ignore them and simply keep signings EO’s.

But it sure seems the US Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable, NRSC, and other ObamaCare/Amnesty supporters...are going to help the Dems and Obama keep the Senate

More and more folks are not just going to vote GOP because it is GOP

It appears we have a "blood feud" within the party. The marxists are happy to exploit it. I believe that it is imperative that we find common ground with the establishment GOP. Form a coalition to stop the encroachment of the government, which is actually the embodiment of all the wrong things that are happening to this country. All of the other goals will fall into place as we proceed along that line.

Shouldn't it really read,

"Dems don't want Obama's help to keep Senate"

Don’t really care to much about 2014. Even with he Senate we can do nothing with ODimwit in the WH. What scares the Hell out of me is 2016 where the Dems pick up 7 seats minimum and Hildabeast is Pres.

2014 is the calm before the storm. It’s a mere shrug regardless of the results.

I think we better take over the Senate now, while we have the chance, or we’ll never will and won’t be able to stop the communist takeover the county.

I agree, Obama cannot help the Democrats keep the Senate. However the GOP will find a way to insure them keeping the Senate.

The GOP needs to shed the stigma of Grand Old Party and get on board with a new meaning Government Of the People We need to get rid of the "old guys" both literally and figuratively, and bring in new blood - men, women, black, white, urban, rural - you get the picture. Market the crap out of it and start winning elections. We need to stick behind one another JUST AS THE RATS DO.

case in point - watch what happens when Hillary runs - every RAT in the land will line up behind her. For agreement sake, let's say Rubio makes a run at it. Let's say he checks yes on 8 of the 10 of our favorable list, half of the folks on this site will rail against him like he was Satin - just like McConnell is doing to Bevin. Just like many conservatives did with Romney. Quit blaming the media and blame yourself, if you didn't vote. Instead we need to get behind the candidate 100% before the election and WIN, then deal with converting the other 20% of the views. Would you rather have an 80% republican in office opposed to ANY % RAT? That is be big question.

And turn out will depend on Amnesty.
If the GOP passes amnesty you can bet on a very bad turnout for the GOP.
In fact, if the GOP passes amnesty the GOP is finished.

The best ally Obama has is Mitchell McC of KY, and he is determined to turn that seat to Grimes.

The number one problem Conservatives must solve if they are ever to hold power again: How do you compete with Santa Claus? Just that simple.

“If Republicans take back the Senate in November that will give them a stranglehold on both Houses of Congress...”

I’ve got a thousand bucks that says this writer didn’t refer to the Democrat majority control of Congress as a “stranglehold”.

And when are liberals going to admit that their goal with abortion is to decimate the birth rates of minorities?

Abortion is racist at its core, and liberals need to be called on this every day.

Conniving Democrats play the populist card----crapping on big business and whining about abuse of the poor. Obama’s eyeing 2014 w/proposals for increasing the minimum wage and lengthening unemployment benefits---- b/c they poll well everywhere.

What's this? Obama and the Dems not running on the "big effing deal"?

No mention of Obamacare---the signature legislation of his presidency.

As far back as 2008, at the presidential debate in Nashville, Democrat candidate Obama advanced his signature plan that was ultimately enacted (by an historic straight Democrat party-line vote) into the "Affordable Care Act :

OBAMA: "No. 1, let me just repeat, if you’ve got a health care plan that you like, you can keep it. All I’m going to do is help you to lower the premiums on it. You’ll still have choice of doctor.”

Repeated over and over ---- with the promise that every American family would be saving $2500.00 on healthcare costs.

LOCK-STEPPING PARTY LOYALTY NOT SEEN SINCE 1940's ERA EUROPE Obama And The Dumbos marching in lockstep. The persistent Dumbocrat drumbeat ---- in obeisance to Obama ---- kept ringing reassuringly in our ears: "If you like your plan, you can keep your plan."

O/Care's got free ambulance service too. (Pic courtesy of clearcarbon.)

It is a false question, because 80% would be tolerable. What we're talking about here with the typical RINO in terms of abiding by the principles in the party platform is 40%, at best.

I won’t be shamed into voting for any RINO again. Save your arguments.

Wasn't an argument, more of an observation. Unless we get a truly conservative slate/choice, we are pretty much up the creek. I don't have any confidence that will happen. Many won't show up to vote for a "lesser of evil" so the hard core Left wins.

Do you have a prognosis of what it would take to get a suitable candidate through the Primaries? I keep hearing more with sentiments similar to yours, but there is a marked lack of a plan other than to not vote for the RINO. If you know of anyone who has a plan, I would be happy to spend time and money to help execute the plan. I feel as helpless as most and have a dim view of any chance to turn it around - especially in some sort of fell swoop. I'd rather find a constructive way to move forward than to just sit at my computer and rail about it, but I'm pretty much ignorant about ways to push any movement - even local Tea Party folks don't seem to have any plans that will help cause a substantive turn-around - just support any conservatives that happen to be in the running around the Nation, but all within the framework of a system that is stacked against us.

Most important is to close ALL GOP primaries to GOP voters only.
