Chris McDaniel’s Quest (to Unseat Cochran MS)
NRO - National Review Online ^ | JANUARY 20, 2014 4:00 AM | By Jonathan Strong

Mississippi state senator Chris McDaniel may be running for the Republican nomination for one of his state’s U.S. Senate seats, but he’ll be the first to tell you that he puts his conservative principles ahead of his allegiance to party.

McDaniel’s proudest moment back home came when he tried to override a veto from Republican governor Haley Barbour — one of the GOP establishment’s eminent figures — to rein in the state’s aggressive use of eminent domain for redevelopment purposes.

“Private property is one of the cornerstones of our Constitution. And if the government can take it arbitrarily for almost any purpose, then we are not truly a free people,” McDaniel tells me over breakfast in Washington, D.C.

Now he’s taking on Republican senator Thad Cochran, an old-school appropriator who has been serving in Congress for 41 years.

barbour is no better than bill clinton. He did well after Katrina but his big government, big business, eminent domain, screw the people, criminal freeing ways show the man for who he truly is... and he is not a good man by any measure. He and kkkarl rove arethisclose.

Barbour, meanwhile, is not a fan.
“I think he will get his head handed to him, and that will be what he deserves,” the former governor, now a lobbyist, said of Chris McDaniel before he announced his primary bid.

You either have to vote on a dim ballot or a republican ballot during primaries. It is either one or the other. In the General it is wide open. There is no state registration by party.

Well, this June 3, 2014 is going to be very interesting!

Voter ID law will be in effect for June 2014 primaries

Also, in MS, we do not register by party affiliation.
Primary: June 3, 2014
Runoff: June 24, 2014
Filing Deadline: March 1, 2014

I know Mississippi all too well.....lived there over 40 years, and forced to move to Texas when there were no jobs. Texas is the real-deal, true-blue Conservative State. Mississippi “talks” about it alot, and I know a lot of good Conservative people (personal friends with Kim Wade, Head of the Mississippi Tea Party). However, in the end, most Mississippi voters are social Conservatives (strongly pro-life), but are just barely this side of Obama on economics.

Now that is an arrogant statement which ensures that not only will I vote for McDaniel, but will do my level best to make sure everyone I come into contact does so also. So Barbour thinks McDaniel “deserves” to lose, merely for having the audacity to challenge an incumbent who has not represented the constituents who voted for him? We know they think that way, but it’s unbelievable that someone usually as politically acute as Barbour would come eight and say it. Mississippians are known for their defiance and oppositional attitude, and I will make sure that everyone I meet knows Barbour said this, because it will make a lot of folks vote for McDaniel just to show Barbour.

Thanks......

Indeed some primaries will be very interesting and some begin very shortly.
Example in Texas early voting begins on Feb. 18, just 28 days hence.

I so pray and happen to think you're right about his chances.

I can tell you that he's sure trying his level best!

He's making the rounds at small gatherings; spending his time talking to folks.

IMHO, this how elections are won.

Good grief! All this time I've 'known' you on FR, and I never realized you were a Mississippi gal!! I was born and raised there, and hope to return in the near future! Freep Mail me and let me know where you live! I have family on the Coast, in Hattiesburg, Jackson, and Hernando.

My b-i-l, who is a priest in the Biloxi diocese, keeps me up to date on MS politics, and he'd mentioned a primary challenge to Thud Cochran, but I hadn't paid attention to the name.
