I wanted to share with you the "battle" that real conservatives have in Texas. Not only am I running against a Passive/Aggressive Incumbent who will not debate me and will not hold town hall meetings. I am fighting the Lobbyist who donate to Cook. He represents their special interests instead of the constituents.
How does it make you feel, that your State Representative has $640,000.00 in his campaign funds, raising $115,000.00 this reporting cycle and not $1.00 came from the District! To me, this is appalling. Who does he Represent, us or them?
It is time to get mad and show him that we are the people that wants a Representative that will Represent our values and our principles. It is up to you to get out the VOTE! Tell your friends that Early Voting starts Feb. 18th and Voting Day is March 4th.

January 16, 2014 Primary election candidates speak at Monday forum By GRACE GADDY Palestine Herald-Press
PALESTINE — Primary election candidates for County Judge, County Treasurer and District 8 State Representative expressed where they stood on current issues Monday during an open forum hosted by the Anderson County Republicans Club.
Members from the audience penned questions on index cards for the candidates, which were collected and posed by moderator Judge Jeff Doran....
STATE REPRESENTATIVE Byron Cook was not present for the forum. Doran began by asking Vickery how accessible he would be to voters of Anderson County. “Accessibility — that’s very important to me. When you're an elected representative, you become a servant of the people, and I will have a district office and I will empower the workers in that office to be my employees,” he said. “Anderson County is very important to me. I want to see it grow, I want to see it prosper, and I want to make sure the district’s needs are met.” Doran then asked Vickery what he would say to convince Cook's supporters to vote the other way. “I would say that over the last 10 years that he's been elected office, look at his participation in the communities, look at his voting record through conservative voting eyes...,” Vickery said. “In my opinion, he’s gotten more like Austin or more like Washington, instead of more like the state representative we elected 10 years ago.” Vickery said he would look to the Constitution when voting on issues, the morality of the issue at hand and at what level the state legislature needed to be involved. “I feel like if you vote for someone, and they get elected for too long, they forget about those common core constitutional principles,” he said, noting he would not vote for a budget that increases spending by 24 percent. “As a conservative, and as a Republican, you're not going to see me vote for the expansion of Obamacare through Medicaid, and you won't see me push a bill that tries to give drivers licenses to illegal immigrants... So there's a fundamental difference between me and my opponent. I'm running against his voting record.” Doran then reworded questions for Vickery that had originally been for Cook. “Mr. Cook voted against providing financial assistance to volunteer fire departments,” Doran said. “What would be your stand on that issue?” “We as the state of Texas are going to have to take care of our volunteer fire departments, and either put them under a county jurisdiction or some type of insurance jurisdiction, and we're going to have to be there to take care of these volunteers,” Vickery said. “As State Representative, I will do whatever I can to protect them, to properly fund them.” Vickery was then asked about his stance on abortion. “There are no if's, and's or but's about it. I will stand pro-life. I will always vote pro-life. And if I have the opportunity to put pro-life bills before the state, I will do it,” Vickery said. Doran followed up by noting that Cook had voted in favor of Amendment #84 on SB 1 — which would have added special protections for homosexuals in the Education Code — and asked to know of Vickery's stance on this as well. “I would never ever vote for anything that taught anything other than Judeo-Christian values,” Vickery said. “I just cannot understand why we have to demoralize our education code to Muslim, to Islam and other things. I feel like we need to teach a history level of where we came from as Christians, and homosexuality is just not there.” Vickery said he always would vote as a Christian, as a conservative and as a Republican. When asked about his alignment with groups providing campaign funds, Vickery said that 90 percent of his money came from the districts and that his allegiance was to the voters. “I want to be loyal to the people who elect me. This is my job interview to you, so I don’t want to buy your vote, I want to earn your vote,” Vickery said. “Hopefully I don’t have to go to those lobbyists and cater to their wants and needs. I want to cater to your wants and needs as a constituent.”

Those of you who know me, know that when I moved I looked up my State & US reps & State Senator. I have contacted my representative many times and his campaign for several things. The office is helpful but not got back to me.
However, his campaign hasn’t gotten back to me for any reason what so ever and he WILL NOT DEBATE EVER!!!
I already had that attitude from Lloyd Doggett and will not stand for it from a “republican”
Many times we have bragged about a conservative getting money outside of their district. It happens every day. I could care less if this guy got all his money outside the district. Big whoop! We need to retain the House and get the Senate next year. Any penny will help.
This is the STATE rep not the US rep.
Any republican that is TOO COWARDLY to debate a republican WILL NOT defend my rights and liberty from a democrat!
If none of the people in the district will send him $1. then it is telling, sorry I don’t hold with your argument.

I checked on the bill that would issue a driving PERMIT to illegal aliens so they would have to take a driver’s test, pass a background check, and would have to buy auto insurance.
This bill was introduced in 2011 in the state senate by my state senator, Tommy Williams. As one says, the devil is in the details. The details in this case are good ones:
“The new permit would not resemble a driver’s license and could not be used for federal identification purposes, such as airport security.” It is not a driver’s license to be used to register to vote - it is only a PERMIT to drive so they have to pass the qualifications to drive and buy auto insurance.
It will also give us a list of the illegals who want to get a driving PERMIT. It will also catch any illegal who has been charged and convicted of a crime if they try to get a driving PERMIT.
If this comes up in the next session which starts in 2015 after the election in November this year, we need to read that bill to make sure it is still a PERMIT and not a regular driver’s license. I am absolutely positive Senator Tommy Williams will not support a bill that would give these people a regular driver’s license.
I am also absolutely positive the Texas House with a majority of Republicans would not pass a bill to give illegals a regular Texas driver’s license.
The problem here is people are saying Driver’s License when it is NOT a Driver’s License. It is a PERMIT to drive and have auto insurance. No insurance means NO permit. The PERMIT would not look like a regular Texas license. Remember that and correct people who say it’s a driver’s license.

This answers my question. I would have asked this of Byron Cook but he will not face voters in a 2 minute talk at the county exec session or a debate or by phone with a single voter. I have tried.
Since you explained this let me state further, giving a PERMIT to illegals still makes them more “legal” when they shouldn’t be here at all!
Yes, I would like to know who they are but they still won’t deport, call ICE or anything to make it more uncomfy for them to be here.
I would rather have bills that forbid employers from hiring, landlords from renting and NO absolutely NO NO NO Welfare, food stamps and basically the same rules Mexico has for their southern border.
I don’t want to make it easier to stay or appear legal. But that is just me.
Making them take a driver's test and background check and having to get auto insurance is safety for all of us driving on the roads as long as they are here. They can't use the permits for voting as that permit labels them as not being citizens.
You are exactly correct about forbidding employers to hire them - they would have to go back to Mexico and they should not get welfare in any form.
Years ago, in the early to mid 1980s, I was in a Mexican restaurant in Clear Lake, Texas, where NASA is, and there was an evident commotion happening in the restaurant. Cop types were rounding up illegals working in the kitchen of that place and the illegals were marched out of that restaurant and that made it into the newspaper. What happened between that time and now when they can work anywhere? These days, the cop types would probably be arrested for violating the rights of the illegals. Our country has turned upside down since the 1980s.
Before this thread disappears and if gone I want to have on the record that Byron Cook is the Chair of the State Affairs committee. So if he doesn’t want a bill out for a vote it doesn’t get out.
The Concerned Women of America had 65 bills that they were working on. Most were pro-life. None got out in the regular session. The only reason 11 of them got out for a vote was because Rick Perry got them out in special session.
Now once they were out for a vote, Byron Cook did vote for them but holding up bills is another way to defeat something before the fact (vote). How very Sun Tzu.
