Germany to lend €100m for Irish businesses ‘by summer’

Minister of State for Finance Brian Hayes has indicated that Irish small and medium-sized enterprises should be able to tap over €100 million in credit from Germany’s state-owned KfW bank by the middle of the year.

Berlin sources confirmed yesterday that talks were at an advanced stage on the framework of the loan, agreed last November in principle between Taoiseach Enda Kenny and chancellor Angela Merkel.

“It will be €100 million-plus and I think that will make a significant difference,” said Mr Hayes yesterday in Berlin. “I don’t want to be too prescriptive about the timeline but it would be great to see it before June.”

Intensive talks have taken place in recent months between Dublin officials, the finance ministry in Berlin and the KfW bank, headquartered in Frankfurt.

The exact level of the loan to Ireland will be decided not by the KfW but the German federal government, once it is happy that the loans to Irish businesses will carry a full Irish State guarantee. Other outstanding concerns include ensuring that the loans will fund real business investment, at arm’s length from politics, and that the investment is structured so the European Commission does not view it as state aid and a market distortion.

If you notice German TV since 1 Jan....they’ve run various visit-Ireland TV ads. I’ve seen at least a dozen of them in prime-time over the past two weeks. I think the Irish see tourism potential, and a friendly visit from the Germans at this point....makes the Irish economy boom a bit...thus paying back the money on schedule. And at least the Irish aren’t as bad off as Greece.

In recent years, the U.S. has become the largest market for the C-Class, so production of the new car will begin in Alabama in September 2014. Mercedes' most futuristic-looking sedan, made in Alabama -- noodle on that!

I almost never watch German TV because it is garbage, IMO.

I watch sports, but I might not even watch the Olympics. German TV will be covering their Olympians who will basically be wearing the “gay flag” as their uniform.

My wife said we can watch Russian TV coverage.

I could stand watching one homosexual a month if that was all, but not all night every night!

“at least the Irish aren’t as bad off as Greece.”

The Irish workforce is better prepared to leave and work elsewhere, and that is what they are forced to do. Most of the guest workers who arrived during the “Celtic Tiger” period have left, and now the Irish themselves are leaving. I hope they never reach the level of Greece...

I spent a couple of weeks there last summer.

Unfortunately, the ones leaving are quickly replaced by 3rd-worlders (heavily Pakistani) who go directly onto the dole

I knew the UK had that problem; I thought Ireland had resisted having immigrants shoved down their throats while their own people were looking for work abroad. As I understand it, any “refugees” Ireland is forced to take in by the EU aren’t allowed to work in Ireland.

My cousin, whose house I stayed at, has a Pak neighbor who runs a sundries shop, and who gets a monthly dole based on how many kids he has, and he’s breeding. Cousin tells me it’s very common and driving them broke. Cousin is a retired teacher who just got his pension cut again.

Last night my wife reminded me of something I told her (hate when she does that - lol): The Left doesn’t define anything for me.

The rainbows are a gift from God as a promise never to flood the world again. So I see the German rainbow Olympic colors as a tribute to The Old Testament. (which the homosexuals certainly don’t like)

The Olympic Games are back on! :)

Ireland should be in the same position as Canada in the sense that they are a few years behind us, enough to watch our mistakes and learn from them. Canada is ignoring the writing on the wall; I guess Ireland is as well. By any chance, is your cousin in the north? That is a British government there, and the problems your cousin describes are similar to what is happening in England itself.
