Michigan black student union: ‘physical action’ if seven demands not met in one week
Daily Caller ^ | 1/20/2014

Members of the University of Michigan Black Student Union said they would have to resort to “physical action” if a list of seven demands issued on Martin Luther King Day are not met within seven days, The Ann Arbor News reported.

“If negotiations are not complete we will be forced to do more, beginning to increase valiantly our activism for social progress and take physical actions on the University of Michigan’s campus,” said senior Shayla Scales to a group of students gathered on campus, according to the Ann Arbor News.

The seven demands, read aloud by an activist associated with the union after a speech by entertainer and activist Harry Belafonte, included calls for more control over the Black Student Union’s budget, more housing for lower-income students, a new multicultural student center, the requirement of classes teaching all students about the historical treatment of minorities, access to emergency scholarships for minority students, increased exposure to library materials and a requirement that 10 percent of the campus be represented by black students.

Besides the speech by Belafonte, who has recently compared conservative business leaders to the Ku Klux Klan at a rally for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, the social justice activist group By Any Means Necessary, which strongly advocates affirmative action policies, also rallied on campus, blocking traffic in the process.

Monday’s demands come two months after the Black Student Union began a Twitter campaign with the hashtag #BBUM. The hashtag, which stands for “Being Black at Michigan,” trended nationally and was a response to a campus fraternity’s plans to hold a “Hood Ratchet Thursday” party.

“The BBUM campaign, as difficult as it was to hear, has been incredibly insightful. We hear you, and we are making changes,” said University of Michigan president Mary Sue Coleman before Belafonte’s talk, The Ann Arbor News reported.

Coleman, along with school provost Martha Pollack, had issued a three-pronged approach to address diversity at the school. The school plans to implement diversity and tolerance programming beginning next year, according to another report from The Ann Arbor News. A student-faculty committee is also being set up to address campus diversity.

The school has been the center of many similar debates. The U.S. Supreme Court backed the University of Michigan law school’s affirmative action policies in a landmark 2003 case. But in 2006, Michigan voters overturned the law. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on that matter last October.

The percentage of black students at the school has declined since the 2006 vote. Black students made up 4.6 percent of the school’s student population in 2012, down from 6.8 percent in 2008, according to The Ann Arbor News.

Members of the student union who issued the seven demands for change would not specify what types of physical actions they planned to take, the Ann Arbor News reported.

Expell this moron- how did the school ever accept anyone this stupid?

They should publicly state it too “We’re sorry, we tried to let him in under affirmative action principles, but we never suspected he was THIS STUPID”

a requirement that 10 percent of the campus be represented by black students.

Meanwhile, this is another case where the people of Michigan have spoken and banned affirmative action but are waiting on the supreme court to let us know if we're permitted to make our own decisions.

Hey I was reading an afrticle yesterday about a mostly black college that had a group of white kids calling themselves White Student Union. They were making demands and threatening the college if their demands weren’t met.

Oh, nevermind that was something else. That would be racist.

Well, let's see...

1. The Black Student Union could throw a temper tantrum on campus and hold their breath until they turn blue.

2. The Black Student Union could play knockout games on members of the White Student Union.

Which one might be more likely?

Yes, but you have to suffer for the sins of others thus learning the hazards of being part of the white privileged class. Or some other such nonsense justifying stealing your children’s future on the alter of reparations.

it was a tad strange back on the late sixties when I left the state...but this craziness is just astonishingly unscholarly.

seven demands? apparantly these pukes are bored...can no longer get off on marijuana and need to act out to get their kicks.

This has always been what the left has held as their trump card, or perhaps what they fear the most. I’ve seen it stated many times in various ways -

we have to give the minority underclass the wealth that the majority earns or they’ll riot.

My reply is that rioting, vandalism, theft and violence are illegal and that if they try it, they should be penalized accordingly.

Live according to our laws, customs, and culture or suffer the consequences.

Congratulations to you and your children for such accomplishments.
I really mean that.

I have a son and daughter and I’m ready to teach them Japanese and Chinese in the hope that they acquire such intellectual skills that the ability to speak those languages is appreciated by those countries that are not following our descent into whatever morass awaits the fruits of “diversity” and the oblivion of any morality whatsoever...

Sit-in? Mechelle knows all about them. Maybe they're just taking advice from Mechelle.: MICHELLE: I was a little overwhelmed and a little isolated. But then I had an opportunity to participate in a three-week, on-campus orientation program that helped me get a feel for the rhythm of college life — and once school started, I discovered the Campus Cultural Center, the Third World Center, where I found students and staff who came from families and communities that were similar to my own.

“Members of the University of Michigan Black Student Union said they would have to resort to “physical action” if a list of seven demands issued on Martin Luther King Day are not met within seven days, The Ann Arbor News reported.”

Cleverly worded. An attempt to intimidate with an implied but not explicit threat of violence. “Physical action” can mean demonstrations. Call their bluff.

The most ignorant college grad we have been unfortunate to have as a house guest graduated from Michigan with a degree in Psychology and one in Women’s Studies. She was so brainwashed from her diversity classes that it was hard to believe she was related to hubby. We banished her from the presence of our children because she offered to take our daughters to an abortion clinic if they found themselves pregnant. They were high school aged at the time. She bragged about how she had done the same for friends in college because it would be so awful to throw away their futures for babies. She told our children that military members had Jesus’ complexes and that they were horrible people. She had a professor who blamed the US for WWII and who railed against the atomic bomb.

I “demand” that within seven days these “protesters” leave that school and wander America seeking alms.

The campus already was PC when I went there over 30 years ago. I can’t imagine that it is any less “diverse” now.

ex·tor·tion - noun

Happens everyday with no recourse. Look at how the ACLU operations or Unions or Atheists or gay movement are all extortion.
