He said he was going to make his decision this month, and he has.
From the e-mail which is going out to his list this morning
Dear -,
Since you are such a long-time friend, I wanted you to be among the first to know, directly from me. After much thought, prayer, and discussion with Wendy and our children, Ive decided to run for Governor of Louisiana in 2015.
Let me first assure you, this decision will in no way limit the critical work Im doing today in the U.S. Senate. Representing you and your family will continue to be my top priority.
But I believe that as our next Governor, I can have a bigger impact addressing the unique challenges and opportunities we face in Louisiana . . . helping us truly reach our full potential.
Well do this by building excellence in K-12 and higher education, offering every child in Louisiana the skills to compete effectively and achieve his or her dreams. Well do it by making Louisiana more attractive to vibrant businesses, growing the good-paying jobs we need today and tomorrow. Well do it by reforming taxes and spending, spurring economic growth and creating budget stability.
And through it all, well do it by fighting political corruption and demanding government reform and accountability. Thats a battle Ive long waged. The difference is Ill have so many more tools as Governor to do things right and protect taxpayer dollars.
Although an active campaign is still a year away, Ill start preparing for it immediately by doing what Ive always done, including as our U.S. Senator. Thats listening to you, knowing that I sure dont have all the answers.
Ive held over 342 in-person town hall meetings, 128 telephone town halls, and countless other meetings in every parish of our state. Ill continue those travels starting tomorrow, listening directly to Louisiana families about what most concerns them.
And then, after Listening and Learning, I will LEAD. Because Im running to take on the important issues and make the hard decisions, not to avoid them or play politics with them.
This will be my last political job, elected or appointed, period. So my only agenda will be to do whats best for all Louisianians, from our best and brightest to our most vulnerable.
Wendy and I value your friendship, support, and prayers so much. Please continue to bless us with those gifts.
There isnt much point in doing a lot of analysis behind this, as weve already done it here, here and here.
Vitters entry into the race, with Jay Dardenne already in, probably precludes anybody else like John Kennedy or Scott Angelle, for example from running for governor in 2015.
At this point the real question is whether the Democrats will stand pat with John Bel Edwards as their candidate or whether someone will induce Mitch Landrieu to jump in. Landrieu is the only Democrat in the state with the slightest chance of getting past Vitter or Dardenne and making the runoff.
Even the prostitutes say that he was there to talk.
Interesting!
“Even the prostitutes say that he was there to talk.”
I’m not saying he’s Carlos Danger but cmon!!! Its like Billy Jeff saying he never inhaled. :-)
Hey ya know what? If his wife believes it and the voters of LA believe it and they think he will be a good Governor than I say fine.
I highly doubt it myself but it still doesn’t mean he can’t be Governor. God knows the Dems never suffer for their transgressions.

If Vitter had done nothing but talk, he wouldn’t have admitted to having committed “a very serious sin.”
So he said that the allegations were false and politically motivated. That’s probably true, since the allegations included that he liked to wear diapers and engage in kinky sex.
And the New Orleans madam said that his visits weren’t “all about sex.” That means that they were at least partly (if not largely) about sex. Oh, and the DC madam did not seem to share the New Orleans madam’s appreciation of Vitter’s MO.
Vitter, by his own admission, sinned gravely. He has asked for forgiveness to God and to his wife, and there is no evidence that he has returned to such sinful ways (I’m not saying that he doesn’t sin anymore—we are all sinners—but that there is no evidence that he consorts with prostitutes anymore), so I am willing to forgive him as well. But I’m not going to pretend that he never sinned in the first place. Facts are facts, even when they are inconvenient to our cause; we should leave the historical revisionism to the lying liberals.
You are comparing apples to automatic transmissions.
Both Clinton and Carlos Danger not only did immoral things but broke laws.
Sen. Vitter broke no laws as it is perfectly legal to talk to a young woman about life and work issues and bounce ideas off her.
“...Wendy Davis cheated on her husband AND he got custody of the kids (including one of hers from a prior marriage)....”
ON top of that, she filed for divorce the same day as her husband paid the last of her college bills. Pure unadulterated trash. The perfect communist lib candidate to govern the state of Texas. NOT!!
As for odongo. Who knows who it’s been with. Rahm, Reggie Love and how many others? How many can you do in Man’s World bath house in a night? Moochie knows and doesn’t like it one darn bit. Perfect communist lib to govern the USA. NOT!
Your posts on this thread. Seriously?
This is the Vitter I’m talking about. Is it a different Vitter that you’re talking about?
David Vitter statement:
This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible. Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.

Sen. Vitter also said:
I think you know that that allegation is absolutely and completely untrue...I have said that on numerous occasions ... Ill say that in any forum, Vitter said during the broadcast on WSMB radio. Unfortunately, thats just crass Louisiana politics, now that I am running for the Senate. I have made that clear that it is all completely untrue...And, its obviously politically motivated.
Reading between the lines it appears that the Senator did in fact visit prostitutes, but his primary motivation was not sexual, but to talk about personal issues with a woman that is not his wife.
That in itself is a breaking of the marriage vows, but not on the level of sins committed by Bill Clinton, Anthony Weiner or numerous other Democratic politicians who have cheated on they wives.
The forgiveness that has been granted to him my his wife and God is important and will be helpful in his campaign for governor, but there is no reason to believe that his sins are as egregious as some in the media and Democratic operatives have claimed.
In fact, the Senator has stated the facts and the facts show that the allegations are untrue.
“So he said that the allegations were false and politically motivated. Thats probably true, since the allegations included that he liked to wear diapers and engage in kinky sex.”
Thus has nothing to do with diapers or kinky sex and everything to do with Democrats attempting to destroy David Vitter.
Well, as I remember it Jesus said if you lust in your heart, you’ve committed adultery. Bottom line is sin is sin. So I can’t say one did anymore than the other.
And by the way, I’m not casting stones. I’m a huge sinner! I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the left. They condemn republicans but defend democrats. Some condemn democrats and defend republicans.
Presumably the details were what he deemed false and politically motivated. But he was accused of having sex with prostitutes, and he admitted that he had committed “a very serious sin” that had required that he ask for forgiveness from God and his wife, and you think that his “very serious sin” was *talking*?
Vitter had sex with prostitutes. If his wife was willing to forgive him for it, why are you so against accepting the fact that he did it.
I would venture to guess that 99.99% of women would consider it a serious sin if their husband told them that they visited a prostitute and talked to her about his personal problems.
With that fact, there is no reason not to believe Sen. Vitter when he stated that the accusations against him are false and that he is the victim of Democratic Party dirty tricks.
Keep in mind that he is from Louisiana, a state with some of the most hardball politics in the country.
Perhaps, he is guilty of being naive in the vicious world of Louisiana politics and he fell victim to bottom of the barrel Democratic politics of personal destruction.
Senator Vitter is My Senator. I have been more than pleased with his representation of me personally. At this point, with the government in Washington the way it is, I couldn’t care less about the scandal. I will vote for Vitter, and mourn the loss of Bobby. Also, Sens. Vitter and DeMint were the only ones with the guts to vote against Hillary as SOS.
ROFL....he was “talking” to the prostitutes? Trying to guide them? I bet he was “guiding” them. Can we look more like hypocrites?
I am glad I don’t have to vote for this man. I don’t think I could....
His wife may well have forgiven him for his transgressions. But I do think if a person in public life/politician shows such a lack of character as to hire a prostitute....I’m not going to want that person to be in a responsible position that impacts my life.
Character does matter. Decency does matter. I don’t care what letter you have after your name...be it D, R, C or I.
If you are dumb enough to hire a prostitute, don’t ask me to vote for you.
And for the person who says it’s not a crime to hire a prostitute...since when? We’re not talking about Nevada.
