The On Your Side Investigators revealed the colossal cost of Cover Oregon for the first time Monday and it shows how much of your tax money has been spent on the failed website.
KATU learned Cover Oregon and the Oregon Health Authority collectively spent just shy of $200 million on its Cover Oregon website, which has been plagued with problems for months and still hasn't enrolled a single Oregonian for health insurance since the site launched Oct. 1, 2013.
The state health insurance exchange's top dogs have been back and forth for months, extending the date when the website likely could be fixed. As of last week, Cover Oregon's interim director, Bruce Goldberg, said there's no specific deadline for when the website will be fully operational.
Lawmakers, like Rep. Jason Conger, R-Bend, are growing impatient.
"It's an enormous amount of money expended over a couple of years to build a website that doesn't work," Conger told KATU in a Skype interview Monday. "It doesn't make sense to throw good money after bad and just waste that money on something that is ultimately, maybe doomed to fail."

$200 million spent ... not one person enrolled ... but that doesn't matter because they're wasting federal money instead of state funds!
“It doesn’t make sense to throw good money after bad and just waste that money on something that is ultimately, maybe doomed to fail.”
You mean like this failing experiement called a,’Representative Republic?’ ;)
$200 mil for an inoperative website. For that much money I’ll tattoo the ones and zeros to my arm and travel door-to-door. Low bandwidth is better than no bandwidth.
Politicians NOT spend money? Does not compute........
Every Republican in the state should be screaming about this.
Burn baby burn.
Interesting how these articles systematically avoid mention of the contractor paid to do the work, Larry Ellison’s Oracle.
This state blew 200 million, the fed gov, all total? 800 million? Other states another total 2-500 million?
And this was the affordable way to insure about 30 million uninsured? Instead about that number have lost their polices?
And our GOPe have proven to be willing conspirators by not stopping this crap?
Has our government sunk so low to waste so much money to cause so much harm, why?
And our GOPe traitors want to legalize the illegals?
Is this a bad dream? Was I transported to some alternate universe?
Just think...for that much, they could have trained 200 new MD’s for Oregon, who they could employ for lower than average MD costs as payment for the education like the BIA does for Indian healthcare; typically for 2 to 5 years depending on the loan amount.
But that would involve thinking.
“Every Republican in the state should be screaming about this.”
Yea. Both of them........
I remember this story too.
former State Legislator Jane Cease. Cease had served 13 years in the State Legislature when she was appointed to run the States Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). During her tenure, Cease approved spending more than $70 million in cost overruns on a new computer system for the Agency. The system never worked, and the cost ballooned from an original $50 million price tag to $123 million, and was eventually scrapped a total loss for taxpayers. Despite this epic failure, Cease requested and was given another high-paying government job. Under Oregon law, Ms. Ceases 13 years in the Legislature will be credited as though she were paid at her highest three-year government salary during that time.
You mean like this failing experiment called ‘Democracy’.
Our ‘Representative Republic’, under what was a Constitutional Republic, did quite well until our Socialism veering in the early 1900’s
The donkeys are going to put “The Onion” out of business.
If true, that's curious....Ellison was (and probably is) a huge backer of Obama.
It’s most certainly true.
When a nation dies its leaders always resort to doing the wrong things as often as possible. It is the path to national ruin and has been followed fervently for millennia.
Oregon requires a balanced budget every 2 years.
I suspect they will try and push this off till after 2014 and then the 200M bill will show up.
Slush fund for leftist orgs
The State of Oregon is not doing the design and development work. Private enterprise is.
HA....balanced budget? They have tricks to get around THAT!
Oh, but the State of Oregon tells the Private Enterprise what they want, and likely changes it multiple times during development and implementation....they were warned multiple times months ago of the problems....chose not to listen...head of Oregon Exchange recently left...something about “health” and then resignation....this was a slush fund for the “Governor”
$200mm and no enrollments. Wow, who did their software? Who did they know?
The reward/results ratio here is even more ridiculous than for CGI, who until recently was responsible for healthcare.gov.
AND the the 300 or so state cars that were lost when Mill Creek flooded because the company that they hired didn’t get to the state parking lot in time to move all of the cars when they knew several days ahead of time that there would be flooding. They sat at their desks and watched it happen. Then they went out and bought new cars.
From the Lund Report, which I have followed closely, regarding the Oregon Exchange:
The biggest reason Cover Oregons website lags behind is because Oracle didnt meet its deadline and should have begun testing last May, rather than delaying until this summer when it was too late to resolve the problems it encountered, King said. Oracle has been paid handsomely by Cover Oregon for its consulting and software development. Its received $43.2 million this year accounting for $11.1 for hardware, $9.5 million for software and $22.6 million for consulting.
The scope of the project, bringing Medicaid, Healthy Kids, commercial and the SHOP program has been a lot more complex and challenging than everyone thought, King said. And some of the initial work done by Oracle wasnt done to the level of quality that was needed to do testing early enough to find out where the problems were.
Wonder who at Oracle is Kitz’s lackey?
Cover Oregon: Health exchange failure predicted, but tech watchdogs’ warnings fell on deaf ears
Steve 86 is correct.
Oracle is the main loser in the Oregon plan.
Go to the link below and go down the list about 5 links to see Oracle’s criminal or inept behavior here.
Like medical marijuana for self inflicted mental depression and realization that if you got a paycheck for this fiasco, you are a true loser in life.
Then, your only chance is to go into politics as a rat. Act like our president, use pot and talk a great game lie at all times.
