OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma Democratic Party chairman Wallace Collins says former U.S. Rep. Dan Boren is considering running for Tom Coburn's U.S. Senate seat.

Boren served four terms as a U.S. Congressman then went on to work for the Chickasaw Nation as president of their corporate development department.

Boren was the state's only Democratic member of Congress, serving the 2nd District.

You got a point there. Let me clarify; I was OKSooner before David Boren became President of OU. (Of course, this is long before FreeRepublic existed either but it’s the same difference...)

Carson was ahead in the polls when the GOP Establishment-anointed candidate was OK City Mayor Kirk Humphreys. Coburn had to get in in order to save the seat.

Well, it wouldn’t be the first time Democrats ran a dead guy for the Senate.

That is a good question, I don’t know either. It was rumored he was going to run for Governor this year, which is why he stepped down from his Congressional seat. But I never belived that, I think he saw his polls and how much everyone disliked Obama and got out before he was defeated. He may just be floating his name out there to see what the reaction is. Honestly, I will be surprised if he actually runs. I think Rats that live in reality know they have no chance.

The betting would be that if the GOP gets into a brutal internecine primary royale, Boren would benefit from the losing side refusing to support the nominee in the general. That played a part in Indiana, with a lot of Lugarite liberals not voting for Mourdock (gaffe or no gaffe). Boren will still have to carry the baggage, however, of being the person who would cast a vote to keep Harry Reid as Majority Leader.

David Boren was the critical single vote that stopped Clinton's BTU tax. I'd tip my hat to him on that basis alone...

My local station, Newson6.com, is reporting thru the AP, that Boren said he WON’T run. They also say many Rats (my word) have ruled out running, except... Brad (let’s all gamble) Henry, and Jeri Askew.

Former U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, former Lt. Gov. Jari Askins and longtime Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby each told The Associated Press they have no plans to run for the seat.

It will b interesting to see who the Rats put up as the “sacrificial lamb”. All one has to say is Harry Reid.
