Former Virginia governor Robert F. McDonnell and his wife Maureen were charged Tuesday with illegally accepting gifts, luxury vacations and large loans from a wealthy Richmond-area businessman who sought special treatment from state government.

Authorities alleged that McDonnell and his wife received gifts from executive Jonnie R. Williams again and again, lodging near constant requests for money, clothes, trips, golf accessories and private plane rides.

In exchange, authorities alleged that the McDonnells worked in concert to lend the prestige of the governorship to Williams’s struggling company, a small former cigarette manufacturer that now sells dietary supplements.

The two were charged with 14 felony counts, including wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, obtaining property under color of their official office and conspiring to the do the same.

They were also charged with making false statements to a federal credit union.

McDonnell was also charged with making a false statement to a financial institution, and Maureen McDonnell was charged with obstructing the investigation.

Mcdonnell, Brown, and Christie we’re never Tea Party favorites.

Are you saying that Jeb Bush was behind this indictment?

Jeb isn’t behind anything, it’s the elites behind him who want him as the backup RINO candidate for 2016. He is just one of several RINOs whose job it is to split the primary votes until one like Jeb is left.

Uh, Brown was elected as a national referendum against Obamacare. All our favorite conservatives were out fighting for him. He was the 41st vote against it. Virginia swept in Republicans in late 2009 and it was widely seen as a referendum on Obama's first year. Conservatives were highly motivated and swept the GOP into all the top state offices. Christie's takedown of Corzine and battles against the unions were a national sensation among conservatives. These were all seen as the start of the turn against Obama and the Democrat victories of 2006 and 2008, and were all widely regarded by conservatives around the country. The formal tea party movement was just underway, 8-10 months after Rick Santelli's famous rant and the first tea party events in April 2009.

Cucinelli didn’t trip, he WAS tripped

There's much truth in that. He was stabbed in the back by the DC GOPe. No doubt. He also made some tactical mistakes early that probably cost him the election despite that. He allowed the War on Women bullcrap to take hold early when it was purely fabricated. I was hoping he'd run a lot more nimble campaign than he did.

Wrong.
Santelli’s rant was NOT the start of the Tea Party.
He just gave a label to a movement that started in the 2006-2007 rebellion against Bush/McCain’s push for amnesty when average American citizens melted the Capitol Hill switchboards and servers.

Brown’s victory was against Obamacare, not in support of Tea Party principles (big government, taxation, Constitutional preeminence).

Virginians did not consider McDonnell a Tea Party candidate. He was a cure for the Warner/Kaine years and an alternative to a pale Democrat opponent.

Tea Party people may have cheered on the Democrat defeats by these three Republicans, but they were definitely NOT Tea Party candidates.

Believe whatever you want. If you think Santilli’s rant was not the start of the tea party movement, you can have that opinion, but there was no national movement or organization previous to that. The tax day events of 2009 was the beginning. There was no hint of tea party organization or movement during the 2008 primaries.

“There was no hint of tea party organization or movement during the 2008 primaries.”

Maybe not around you, but there was plenty around us, and it all started from the organizational activities from the McCain amnesty opposition, and the summer of discontent a year later in 2008 when we went after the Town Hall meetings of congress people. Too bad you came in much later, but welcome.

Now go back to watching that little Santelli statue on your dashboard.
