(CNSNews.com) Because he did not enforce the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and now unilaterally adjusts the Obamacare law as it unfolds, President Barack Obama is sending a signal to liberal federal judges to mirror him and, as a result, the presidents long-term legacy will be the establishment of lawlessness in the United States, said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).
Bachmann also compared Obamas actions to those of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi whatever he said was law.
The congresswoman made her remarks during a Jan. 15 Conversations with Conservatives meeting at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. In response to a question about federal judges in several recent cases ruling that state bans against homosexual marriage were unconstitutional , Bachmann said this was part of a pattern set by the White House and the U.S. attorney general, which liberal federal judges were copying.
The president and [Attorney General] Eric Holder were very clear when the president came in, said Rep. Bachmann. He said that he believes that the DOMA law [Defense of Marriage Act] was unconstitutional and he wouldnt enforce it. Thats one example of the lawlessness of this president. Hes violating his obligation under the Constitution to faithfully execute the laws of the land.
She continued, He announced to the nation he wasnt going to faithfully execute the laws of the land. And whats interesting is that, essentially, you have judges citing an unconstitutional act of the president [ignoring DOMA] as the precedent for their lawless decision for activism.
So weve completely gone askew from what the Founders bled and died and fought for, and that was to have a limited government under a written Constitution, not an unwritten, ever-evolving living letter that becomes whatever anyone wants at any moment, but it actually means something, she said.
And isnt it interesting that Obamacare is being played out exactly the way that the activist courts deal with the Constitution, said Bachmann. Because Obamacare is this living law that no one knows what it means its whatever the president says at a press conference or tweet or whatever some bureaucrat says and thats how were dealing with the law. When you do that, you have illegal constitutional anarchy.
My opinion is, the legacy of Barack Obama will be of the establishment of lawlessness in the United States, said Bachmann. And that doesnt portend well for the future of the United States. Thats what we have given the world, is the idea of the fact that we, all men are under the law, no one is above the law.
And when a president decides that hes going to write a law, that sounds a lot like former President [Mohamed] Morsi in Egypt, who all of a sudden declared that whatever his edict was, [it] was not appealable to a court, she said. Whatever he said was law. Well, how is that much different from what were seeing come out of the White House today? Were seeing many of the same actions. And now judges are taking their cues from the White House and thats a very adversarial precedent thats being set for the future of law and security in the United States.
Last week, a federal judge ruled that Oklahomas ban against gay marriage was unconstitutional. In December, a federal judge in Utah ruled the same, declaring Utahs prohibition of same-sex marriage violated the U.S. Constitution.
As CNSNews.com has reported, President Obama has issued numerous waivers and changes to Obamacare to try to get the law to function more smoothly in the marketplace.
So, if a pro-life AG comes along in 2017, can he ignore the law because he thinks it is unconstitutional?
Exactly...For 0bummer and Holder to pull this unconstitutional crud is almost unbelievable but of course they’re leftists.
Absolutely! If the things 0bama has done are acceptable then a pro-life pres. with a pro-life AG could send agents around to close down all abortion operations nationwide. All the pres. needs to do is say “I can’t wait for Congress to act.”
Yet, this is inviting lawlessness.
He gets by with a little help from his friends.... in Congress.
Obama ignores laws he doesn’t like, and makes new laws without approval from Congress. That’s what a dictator does - not a President whose power is limited by a written constitution.
You couldn’t have said that better, it’s precise and succinct and exactly what a dictator does.
We already have unopposed lawlessness. The entire Executive Branch and DoJ are rampantly lawless.
2 Thess. 2: 3, 4 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship...
Verses 7, 8 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;
