A defiant Mayor de Blasio is vowing to go full speed ahead with plans to raise taxes on the citys highest earners to pay for universal pre-K even as Gov. Cuomo is offering to have the state foot the bill.
De Blasio not only insisted his five-year tax hike was the only way to ensure a reliable stream of funding, but said he felt obligated to enact the will of those who voted him into City Hall.
I think of it in terms of following through on a commitment I made to the people of New York City, that they ratified with great energy and with a huge majority, that they want this to happen and believe this is the right way forward, said the mayor.
Cuomos proposal calls for pre-K funding to grow over five years by a total of $1.5 billion across the state. The proposal is likely to help Albany legislators make the case that approving a tax hike for the city isnt necessary this year when many of them, including Cuomo, are up for re-election.
The mayors unwillingness to bend on the tax hike sets the stage for a significant rift with Cuomo, for years a close ally.

Tennessee instituted pre-K for poor children yeas ago. The governor instituted a study and it foud that by the third grade, there was no difference between pre-K kids and non pre-K kids. In other words with the current school system, it was a complete waste of money. That should have killed it, but it lives on.

His whole campaign so far as I can determine was “I’m gonna sock it to that EEEEEVIL 1%”.
Most New Yorkers obviously want to raise their taxes if they voted for him.
I am just comparing him to Obama who ran that bull***t “centrist” campaign in 2008. Would never have close promising what he truly believed.
As stunning as it is to me, New Yorkers apparently want that.

Unfortunately, the very wealthy can always find loopholes and ways to move, hide, or otherwise protect their wealth. It's the middle class and aspirants to the middle class who get screwed. The middle class in this country is being destroyed before our very eyes, soon there will be nothing but elites who manage things to suit them, and destroy the "kulaks"-the middle and working classes-by giving their pitiful share of the pie to the parasites. Stalin had to resort to gulags and murder to accomplish this. I wonder how far our commies will go before it's over. Not to mention the racial component in all this.
And on top of all this, both sides want to import more future "gibme" voters. One side will never get their votes, so I wonder what their stake in that is. Ever cheaper labor is all I can come up with. So that ties right in with them not caring if they ever hold a Congressional majority or the White House again. They just want to get rich, they don't need the hassle of having to actually govern to do that. And almost none of them are "true believers" in conservatism, whereas the left definitely has its "true believers".

I agree. Hitler made it plain what his agenda was too, that didn’t make him a person of integrity.

This fact has been proven over and over again. There are studies from decades ago showing that the once venerable Headstart program was a failure. The study conclusively demonstrated that while some kids did show a bump in early learning, yet the study revealed that all kids caught up and were at the same level by the third grade. This study was followed up by other studies showing the same thing.
Pre-K schooling is nothing more than taxpayers footing the bill for day care — period.

They don't care - thanks to the welfare state industrial complex, every additional immigrant is also a consumer with First World purchasing power. This is why Rick Perry had significant support from a grocery store operator and a construction magnate - to the tune of tens of millions of dollars in his PAC. The GOP pols who get funded win. Anti-amnesty pols get less business funding, so they're less competitive.

Funny, I just read that.
I’m sure those folks ran over each other to vote for him, so they are getting what they deserve.

De Blasio invites the rich for dinner and then expects them to pickup the tab. In time, de Blasio will dine alone with no one left to fleece.
