Revealed: Dispirited Obama “Shocked” He Couldn’t Get Gun Control Passed After Newtown Massacre
The Gateway Pundit ^ | Wednesday, January 22, 2014 | Kristinn Taylor

David Remnick, author of the new nearly 17,000 word profile of President Barack Obama in the New Yorker, revealed in a podcast interview this week that a dispirited Obama told him that he misread the “moment in political history” and was shocked he could not get gun control measures passed in the wake of the December 2012 Newtown, Ct., Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in which a lone gunman killed twenty children and six adults.

Remnick left this revelation out of his 18 page article which was based on numerous in depth interviews with Obama. Remnick did not devote anything of substance in the article to Obama’s gun control failure except to note he couldn’t get it done. This is curious because the way Remnick describes it, this was an enormous political failure that took a toll on Obama . Remnick should have explored this further and reported on it.

Remnick spoke about Obama’s reaction to his failure on gun control in a New Yorker podcast interview about the article with Executive Editor Dorothy Wickenden and Washington correspondent Ryan Lizza that was taped on Monday.

In describing Obama’s reaction, Remnick sounds just as shocked as he says Obama is about the failure to pass gun control after Newtown. Remnick made his comments while speaking about Obama’s ambitious second term agenda, including gun control, that he laid out in his Inaugural address one year ago this month.

Remnick: “Well look at gun control. You had the ruthless slaughter of school children played out in front of the American public in Connecticut. If ever there was a moment emotionally and politically that serious gun control would take hold of Congress it was then. Eighty-three percent of the public was for at least some minimal gun control. The NRA was a mockery in a lot of quarters and who won? The NRA and the right.

“I think this sh.., I know this shocked Obama. He said along this trip that I followed him on that one moment in political history where he really misread what would happen was on gun control. It was a terrible failure. And I think really dispiriting.”

Obama made an angry speech in the Rose Garden after he was defeated in the Senate last April. He called it a “shameful day for Washington.”

Given the impact he says this political miscalculation had on Obama, it is curious Remnick chose not to include it in his profile but instead buried it in a podcast.

With a Dem legislature and Senate you would have thought he would have went for gun control first instead of Obamacare.

We now would be saddled with an onerous unconstitutional gun law, backed by the IRS’s BATF, instead of an unconstitutional (no matter what Roberts said) medical law backed by the IRS.

What a pity that preaching from a pulpit of dead children didn’t help him to fundamentally change America by taking away our rights. maybe he should try burning down the Reichstag instead.

“A pResident should be able to anything he wants in the name of a “crisis.”

That is not a ‘President’....that is the functional definition of a ‘dictator’.

And BTW… cemeteries the world over (HERE as well) are honored with the remains of young Americans who died to insure that Americans would never experience the latter.

The bastard was shocked to find that there are some Americans left who still take seriously their freedoms and rights enumerated in the Constitution.

If ever there was a moment emotionally and politically that serious gun control would take hold of Congress it was then.

Here we have the leftist strategy. "Never let a crisis go to waste", let emotion "take hold" and pass sweeping statist control while you are in the moment.

He was shocked that the actions of one man couldn’t nullify the U.S. Constitution? I’m appalled anyone thought it should.

One thing the left has been successful at is putting the blame for shootings on the shoulders of all gun owners.

After Sandyhook an ex-acquaintance bluntly said it was the fault of all gun owners and we all wanted to see children die.

After the Tampa theater shooting another one did the same. Said she could live her live without guns and didn’t want to hear anyone else with any other view.

Its about control and using an utopian idea to sell it.

Ten years ago I would have never, ever believed anything of the sort was possible. In fact I would have gotten angry at you for that post. But not anymore. I have lost ALL faith and trust in government and will put absolutely nothing beyond them. i simply don’t trust them and cede them no goodwill.

Well, I'd have to be counted in the group that wants the minimum gun control measures.

"minimum" would be much better than the craptopia we have in NYC now.

Poor Obama.

He climbed up on top of those dead bodies to grandstand and exploit them and it all came to naught.

I have looked carefully at the SANDY HOOK CONSPIRACY sites and videos.

I have also looked at the SANDY HOOK CONSPIRACY DEBUNKED! sites.

I cannot believe that it might have been a conspiracy.

But in truth, after all I have seen, after the analyses, after the facts, truths, half-facts, half-truths, I believe it might have been. I think it is possible - maybe very possible. So look into it for yourself.

If the Democrats had proposed Universal Background Checks with safeguards to ensure that it could not turn into Universal Registration, they could have passed the law with ease.

But nobody gives a damn about Universal Background Checks. They want Universal Registration, and will try to get it any way they can. The NRA is not being paranoid when they fight, tooth and nail, over every new bit of gun regulation, because every bit of new gun regulation seems to include the mechanisms that will lead to Universal Registration.

Yep, I believe he has a few nutcases or sleeper cells sitting around the country. Turns them loose when he needs a distraction.

No, I can’t prove any of it.

Who were those two guys running in the woods from the school? Who was chasing them? Why was it not reported after it was filmed via helicopter?

Did he even make a concrete proposal for new laws? All I remember is his typical blather about “common sense” laws.

Exactly. Obama is the only person/President in my 66 plus years ever to act like a damn king in the White House. He thinks he and his wife are Royalty. He and his wife are users. He has a truck deliver champagne to the White house for his wife’s birthday. We just paid for the witch’s holiday plus another plane trip to and from Hawaii. This crap is old as he and his wife are living it up like we have 18 more trillion just to piss away on their extravagance.
