Mexican who gunned down Houston cop WILL be executed tonight despite last-minute pleas from Mexico government
A Mexican held on death-row in a Texan prison for murdering a policeman will be executed tonight despite last-ditch appeals from lawyers for clemency. Edgar Arias Tamayo, 46, was set for lethal injection this evening for shooting of Guy Gaddis, 24, in January 1994. The case has been a focus of protests in his home town and diplomatic pressure, with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry calling for a delay to Tamayo's execution. Tamayo's lawyers had lodged an appeal arguing that he was ineligible for the death penalty due to mental impairment. But a court ruled the appeal had been filed too late. Gaddis, who had been on the force for two years, was driving Tamayo and another man from a robbery scene when evidence showed the officer was shot three times in the head and neck with a pistol Tamayo had concealed in his pants. The car crashed, and Tamayo fled on foot but was captured a few blocks away, still in handcuffs, carrying the robbery victim's watch and wearing the victim's necklace. Tamayo's attorneys and the Mexican government contend Tamayo's case was tainted because he wasn't advised under an international agreement that he could get legal help from his home nation following his arrest. Secretary of State John Kerry previously asked Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to delay Tamayo's punishment, saying it 'could impact the way American citizens are treated in other countries.' The State Department repeated that stance Tuesday.

Mexicans should understand this: Mess with the bull, get the horns. See ya amigo!
“If you kill someone in Texas, we will kill you back.” - Ron White
Hasta la vista, baby.
Justice delayed is justice denied. Shoulda been done in 1995.
This is Texas, you kill us, we’ll kill you right back...
“Mexican who gunned down Houston cop WILL be executed tonight despite last-minute pleas from Mexico government”
Just consider this “undocumented” just like he was.
Good news. I hope nothing stops it. Even in Texas, it’s taken 20 years from the time the murder was committed.
So many more sit and wait 18-20 years or more for their lawyers to squeeze money out of Texas taxpayers to defend these heinous criminals. In the days when victims’ families actually got to see justice performed at the end of a rope, it didn’t take long, and it wasn’t expensive for the law-abiding citizens of Texas.
“.... Secretary of State John Kerry previously asked Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to delay Tamayo’s punishment, saying it ‘could impact the way American citizens are treated in other countries.”....
Oh for crying out loud! Kerry couldn’t care what we’re treated like in or from other countries unless he’s got some skin to loose himself! or Glory taken from his roaming about attempting “Peace”. He thinks he’s the world’s cop!
If the SCOTUS doesn’t step in then sometime after 6 PM CST
the execution should commence.
Tamayo’s lawyers went to the U.S. Supreme Court after the 5th U.S. Circuit Court
of Appeals said an appeal this week renewing an earlier contention that Tamayo
was mentally impaired and ineligible for execution was filed too late.
This will be execution #509 since executions began again back on Dec. 7, 1982.
10-friggin-4 you POS . . . you can appeal to God . . . but ‘der ain’t no Miranda Rights up in Heaven.
This scumbag has been stealing our oxygen, eating our food and costing us hundreds of thousands each year for the past twenty years.
He should’a been swinging nineteen years ago!
And they tell us that there’s a prison crowding problem, yeah because losers should’a been offed years ago
Kerry should be asking other countries to accept American justice, not the other way around.
How’s about we don’t call him a Mexican.
He’s a man, who took the life of a LEO.
Someone had better come up with a conservative news channel, or a significant part of the population is going to be indoctrinated.
How about a FREE REPUBLIC forum in Spanish?
100% deterrent too. This killer will NEVER take another life. Therefore, Capital Punishment is 100% effective in the deterrent effect it has.
I thought we were supposed to treat illegals just like US citizens. When it suits them, they want to be treated like foreigners.
1994? And of course it’s taken 20 years. Why even call it the death penalty? 20 years from now anyone can die, it’s 20 freakin’ years. They should call it “people who should be dead blowing through taxpayer cash so liberals feel good about themselves”
5th Circuit rejects cop killer’s request for stay of execution..
Fry him like Colonel Sanders would!
Somebody post a pic of Achmed... “I keel you”!
Haven’t some libs referred to illegal aliens as “undocumented citizens”?
That being the case, what’s the problem?
What’s the penalty for an American, illegally in Mexico, who kills a law enforcement officer??
amigo, want be checking out tonight.Won an appeal
20 years late.
“In a last minute deal with the Justice Department, he will however still be allowed to vote for the next 20 years”
HUNTSVILLE The execution of a Mexican national condemned for killing a Houston policeman was at least temporarily put on hold Wednesday as the U.S. Supreme Court considered appeals to keep Edgar Tamayo from the Texas death chamber.
Tamayo's execution had been scheduled for 6 p.m. CST Wednesday for the 1994 slaying of Guy Gaddis, 24. The state still could execute Tamayo before midnight if the Supreme Court rules in its favor
Earlier Wednesday, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied a stay of execution
A stay? I clicked on the link in message #15 and it said the execution was carried out.
This piece of garbage is no longer of this earth. Good riddance. Should have been done 20 years ago.
I really did not make this up. I am not in the habit of posting fake stories. You need to look at the times things occurred. It was on when the story was first posted. Then around 8 p.m. CST there was a stay between/during the 5th Circuit ruling and the Supreme Court appeal, which then was rejected (at about 11:30 p.m.) thank heavens. So it was on again.
Oh, I figured the USA Today story was altered/updated after the link was posted. Maybe after you posted your first message, too.
