Texas executes Mexican national despite opposition

The Supreme Court denied a stay of execution for Mexican national Edgar Tamayo, clearing the way for Texas to put the inmate to death Wednesday night. The Mexican government had called on Texas to halt the execution, saying that the death penalty in this case would violate international treaties.

Secretary of State John Kerry previously asked Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to delay Tamayo's execution, saying it "could impact the way American citizens are treated in other countries." The State Department reiterated that position Tuesday.

Finally!!

Justice was served despite the efforts of the American secretary of state and former governor of Texas to thwart it.

I cannot imagine the agony the Gaddis family must have felt as American officials sided with their American son’s murderer.

Wish I were there with the V-Star, I’d be revving it up LOUD to drown out the protestors and as a form of celebration.

This is counter to what I heard around 8pm. Didn’t understand the call for a Supreme Court challenge. Didn’t it already go to the Supreme Court?

It’s not like JOhn Kerry actually gives a damn anyway.

Kerry clearly doesn’t understand how the law works in Texas. Neither the governor or the attorney general is allowed the power to delay an execution for long. The clemency board (if I recall the name correctly) is the only entity that can do that, and they said no a long time ago.

Last week, former Texas governor and Atty. Gen. Mark White joined the effort to stop the execution
