Obama names Black lesbian to federal judgeship

President Obama has named a Black lesbian from Illinois to serve on the federal court, according to The Washington Blade. Obama nominated Staci Michelle Yandle for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois on Jan. 16 as part of a group of four nominees. U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin ( D-Ill. ) recommended Yandle, who will need confirmation from the U.S. Senate before she's seated on the bench.

According to her firm's website, Yandle opened her own firm in 2007 ( after two decades of practice ) "to concentrate on representing victims of medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, defective products, and civil rights violations." She practices in throughout southern Illinois and the metropolitan St. Louis area. Her firm is in O'Fallon, Ill.

I will admit I don't know the demographics of the law profession but consider this. There are probably more men in it than women. There are probably more whites and other minorities in it than blacks. There are probably more straight people in it than homosexuals.

So what are the chances that of all the candidates the best one for the job just happened to be female, black, and homosexual? Really not good. It is pretty obvious she was almost certainly selected in no small part because of her gender, race, and sexual orientation. Seems to me we are not supposed to let those things influence us in our hiring decisions. Oh yeah, we have terms to describe those influences. Sexism, racism, and I suppose there is one similar to homophobia but more along the lines of the others, but I don't know it. Thing is, sexism, racism, et. al. are considered bad things, harmful things. Yet here we have the president and his cronies obviously engaging in these things. Great job bammy, I would have expected nothing less of you and your ilk.
