What Trailergate Could Mean for Davis in 2018
Texas Tribune: The Brief ^ | January 23, 2014 | John Reynolds

The Big Conversation

The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza has put a different frame on the Wendy Davis storyline from this week — focusing less on the immediate implications of Trailergate and more on what this means for Davis' attempts to position herself for elections to come.

Cillizza's main point is that Davis had to run this year for governor in order to take advantage of the national prominence afforded her from last summer's filibuster. Running this year makes sure she is in the mix in the next couple of election cycles, when Democrats are hoping to run stronger because of the ongoing demographic shifts in the Lone Star State.

At the same time, the field is expected to be more crowded as stars-in-the-making like San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro make their move onto the bigger stage. In other words, the pressure is on the Davis camp to keep her viable through 2018 and beyond.

"What Davis then needs most of all is not to win — although that would be nice for her and her supporters — but rather to be seen as having run a creditable campaign that continues to elevate her star status," Cillizza wrote. "Allegations like these about her résumé, if they persist and/or lead to other problems with the campaign, are perilous to that perception."

Though the MSM is still spinning it, I've been thinking that the Texas Castro brothers are behind the take down of Abortion Barbie. Wendy's trying to make "lemonade" by pinning it on Abbott [and hoping to raise money]. It always seemed odd that the Dallas paper would go with a Wendy hit piece.

The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza : QUOTE "..... Unless, of course, Davis is seen as running a sub-par candidacy. And that is where the danger in these résumé questions lies for Davis. If the campaign is dogged by stories about her bio and her star — which is ascendant at the moment — is viewed as tarnished in some real way, then her ability to reserve that place at the front of the line is far less certain. And, remember that both Julian and Joaquin Castro as well as a slew of other ambitious, young Texas Democrats are eyeing Senate race in 2018 and 2020 as well as the governor's race in 2018."....

The Castro brothers are Communists, raised that way by their flaming Communist mother. If the voters put them into national office, the USA is finished.

They’ve been groomed since birth (like Obama) to transform America.

I wonder who gave them the following (now corrected) information? Hmmmmmmmm? Wendy?

Aug 2013 - Texas Monthly:**Correction: In an earlier version of this story we incorrectly conflated Wendy Davis’s personal history with her mother’s, stating that it was the former who spent her early childhood on a succession of tenant farms when in fact it was the latter. We also misstated the margin by which Davis beat Kenneth Brimer Jr. in 2008 for the District 10 Senate seat; she won by 2.42 points, not 9, as originally stated. We regret the errors.

July 2013 - San Antonio Express-News: “.......For fans of the Castro brothers, whose national profiles hit fever pitch last year when the elder twin (Julián) presented the keynote address on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention, the most exciting element of the piece will be the photography. On the cover, the fairly serious-looking trio stands together — Davis flanked on either side by a Castro twin.

Other photos show a more jovial crew, including one shot wherein Davis has her hand on Julián’s back. In another, the brothers have ditched their suit jackets and done their best to add some years to their 38-year-old faces.

Julián says unequivocally in the piece — as he has a number of times already in the Express-News — that he has no intention to seek the governor’s mansion in 2014.

The story opaquely implies that Joaquín could challenge Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018 and says that the state senator from Fort Worth is the politician most likely to take on the risk for an unlikely gubernatorial win.”

I would make this analysis. There are several Democratic player groups in Texas, and a couple of them might be behind Wendy. The blunt truth? The Castro brothers know their time is coming, and several of their backers are lining up. I would expect at least one of them to be big-time players in 2016, and both playing major-league ball by 2018. They are young enough....to influence politics for the next two decades in Texas. Wendy may falter easily (I suspect), but the Castro brothers are a totally different story. At least one of them will be a contender for President in 2020.

Unless America tires of the pain of communist oppression... then you will never hear from then again. That is a big IF!

Wendy is toast. When a woman like her gives up the custody of her children, pays child support and gets a restraining order to refrain from illicit drugs and alcohol on child visitations, in Texas politics, it is over.

It's never a wise idea to castigate a paraplegic who can't even walk for never having ‘walked in my shoes’.

It’s not “over” because TX is full of socialists of all stripes who has thus far been unorganized outside of the central cities. Of the eight largest cities, seven are socialist in the inner cities. Fort Worth is the closest to an exception, and that’s Davis’ domicile.

Off to the side... Why does the writer use "as well as" twice in the same paragraph? The word "and" works better in at least one of those instances. "Both and "and". That is one of my pet peeves about language. That, and everyone is always "reaching out" nowadays. They could just call. I guess reaching out is now a catch-all meaning "I sent a text, an e-mail and/or made a phone call".

If Perry were running again, Davis would have easier sailing. Still, I am unconvincded Abbott will be tough enough in the campaign ahead; same with Cassidy in LA.

Perpetually negative comments notwithstanding, Texas is still a shining light to the world, outside the inner big cities.

And not every Hispanic will line up to vote for Communists. Of course there must be hard hitting, truthful campaigns on our side, always. But we can coalesce with others even if a minority among Hispanics, because we care, we work, we VOTE.

Our kind of mentality are also having more of the children than are those who are constantly streaming through the abortion clinics and who think “free” “birth control” is the greatest thing going.

The one thing we must do above all is impart our knowledge and values to those children. And instill in them a willingness to FIGHT and hold onto traditional Texas and America.

Agree on all accounts. The Castros are going to make Henry Cisneros look like a choir boy & there are 2 of them- twice the “fun”.

Keep the libations handy. This could get bloody.
