MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell was in the midst of a discussion with former Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) about reforms to the National Security Agency when she had to interrupt for breaking news ... about Justin Bieber.

In PMSNBC’s defense, the Bieber story is sort of news, as opposed to the 24-7 politica-talk that the big three (CNN/Fox/MSNBC) usually carry nowadays. Like the drivel they were engaging in when the ‘news’ happened.
I was more than a little perturbed last night when watching the news. The time and energy devoted to this story was ridiculous. I got a little angry last night and asked my wife, “What the hell is wrong with this country? Why is this news?” (She keeps up more than I on these issues). To which she responded, “People are afraid of what they are calling the ‘Bieber affect’.”
Apparently, our nanny society is afraid that this “Teen idol” will influence our children into thinking that renting a Lamborgini at 19, drinking and doing drugs is ok because their hero does it. As a nation, we are now too stupid to govern ourselves as evidenced by the jacka$$ we elected president for two terms.
Just so. They know that their remaining audience would far rather hear the latest about the Justin Bieber scandal!
I pretty sure MSDNC would say thar Mickey Mouse is racist.

And our parents were told that Elvis was leading them in to degradation and who knows what else .... but that was then and this is now ...
I have no doubt that a story — any story — about Justin Bieber is more newsworthy than listening to Jane Harman drone on about the NSA.
