Chuck Schumer Pushes Plan To Wipe Out Tea Party Calls for nonpartisan ‘blanket’ primaries

By Jacqueline Klimas January 23, 2014

"Do what a handful of states have done and have a primary where all voters, members of every party, can vote and the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, then enter a runoff," Sen. Charles E. Schumer suggests in his scheme to weaken the tea party. (Associated Press)

Democrats should push for more open primaries as a way of weakening the tea party movement, Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, said Thursday, laying out a plan to try to isolate the grass-roots conservative movement that has emerged as a key hurdle to President Obama’s agenda over the past three years.

Mr. Schumer said moving to a nonpartisan “blanket” primary — in which all candidates compete and the top finishers advance regardless of party affiliation — would force right-wing candidates to appeal to centrist voters, which he said would push out the most extreme candidates.

Jeremiah Wright slams tea party as ‘a 2.0 upgrade of a lynch party’ “Do what a handful of states have done and have a primary where all voters, members of every party, can vote and the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, then enter a runoff,” Mr. Schumer said in a speech at the Center for American Progress. “It would force the most extreme candidates in Republican districts to move closer to the middle to pick up more moderate Republicans and independents.”

Such a system is in place in California, Louisiana and Washington state.

Mr. Schumer said the tea party movement is being controlled by a few wealthy donors whose limited-government philosophy does not reflect the ideas of millions of voters who identify as tea party supporters

Two can play that game.

While they're busy trying to nominate RINOs, we can nominate TEA Party candidates as Democrats.

What would cause him to make that type of assumption? Perhaps the DNC is being controlled by a few extremely liberal wealthy donors whose unlimited-government philosphy does not reflect the ideas of millions of voters......

It’s about time we force Schumer to defend big, bloated tyrannical, NSA government, especially this regime. Why do you think Kay Hagen in North Carolina is running away from the RAT administration? It’s not because North Carolinian’s love big, bloated government.

Make Schumer and the RATS defend this regime. Do you hear me, GOP?

The general problem is that forty percent of America are peeved and long-term hostile toward regular politics now. Thanks to various gimmicks....these are both Republicans and Democrats. The tea party folks might be mostly Republicans....but somewhere around ten to twenty percent....are Democrats. I think Schumer is a bit worried over where 2016 leads onto, and the idea that a Supreme Court judge or two will be retiring by that point.

Are you sure you want that? The process where a person can get a plurality of votes but not a majority is what gave us both Senator Alexander and Corker. In both primaries, the conservatives split the conservative vote and allowed the RINO to emerge as the candidate with 35% of the popular vote.

Well, you know what they say -- The best laid plans of mice and crooked statist rights thief azzholes gang aft agley. But...bring it on.

Gut check, UpChuck, that would also apply to the extreme leftists -- or is he counting on vote fraud to take care of that?

Well, I wouldn't want that, but then again, I wouldn't want to weaken the TEA party! It's a safe bet that there isn't anything that "Chuckie Cheese" Schumer might advise that could possibly be good for Republicans.

If the only difference between Republicans and Democrats is that the Republicans offer to give voters less free stuff -- the Republicans will lose every time.

Rush suggested that the TEA party scares the willies out of the Democrats. I'd agree.

And here I thought that debate was good. That the marketplace of ideas had room for everyone to have a voice. What was that quote? - 'I may not agree with what you say, but I defend to the death your right to say it'. Schumer says 'Death to those who oppose big government'.
I would never oppose an advocate of communism to get up and espouse his ideas. People have a right to be wrong. The Andrew Cuomos, the Barack Obamas, the Chucky Schumers - they want to silence those who disagree with them. Aren't there reasonable Democrats who are able to see this?

The Tea Party isn’t going to just Vanish away—they have moved underground—Just because we have been dormant—doesn’t mean we have gone anyplace. We will come out as the government starts to falter and sink. Watch, we will be back with a new vitality that will find itself manifest in many ways.

I think thats a great idea Chuck. Two things:

1. All voter rolls are purged and everyone re- registers.
2. National elections are done by county instead of state. Whoever wins most counties in state win the state.

On one hand, they - personified by Schumer - must be really scared if they are openly floating plans to destroy the Tea Party. When you threaten power, power fights back.

On the other hand, here we have a sitting US senator advocating suppressing political speech, and laying his plan for doing so.

Is there any doubt these people are fascists?

Exactly. The GOP are such idiots when they do get some air time. Make them defend why they want to defeat people that want to follow the constitution and keep their hard-earned money in their own pockets. Make them defend it- it’s really very simple, but the simpletons that compromise the GOP don’t have any interest.

would force right-wing candidates to appeal to centrist voters, which he said would push out the most extreme candidates.

No Chuck-you. What would happen is that conservatives would stay home in droves, and those candidates at the top would be leftists duking it out over a smaller voting pool. Then more people will wake up and get to see who the real leftists are.

And the Tea Party will still be out there attacking the statist agenda and trying to stop it.

Schumer is a creature of big government. He has never held a private-sector job in his life, and has no clue what real people think outside of NYC. And he has absolutely no clue what the Tea Party really stand for.

it is not an assumption. It is a flat out lie. Lying is what Chucky and the dims do best. I am the TEA party. I work hard, pay my taxes, mind my business, and never bother anyone. All I want is to be left alone. It is the one thing that the power crazed busy bodies and marxists in government will not do. I have had it with them.

From the article: “Mr. Schumer said the tea party movement is being controlled by a few wealthy donors whose limited-government philosophy does not reflect the ideas of millions of voters who identify as tea party supporters.”

Whereas the Democrats and GOP-E united party are OWNED mainly by a majority of Marxist/Socialist wealth and power class donors. These are ones who push their agenda for One World Order and a Slave and master economy with no allowances for free citizens to prosper from their own labors. They must be regulated into submission so sayeth our owned leaders. Those are the same leaders who are forcing subversion & creating our now out of control government & loathing our once honored Constitutional form of government. Such as these aren't statesmen they are Liars and Cheats.

Their philosophy does not reflect the ideas of the Founding Fathers nor any of the writs forming our nation. They are Tyrants. Spit on the sidewalk toward them when you see them in disgust. Their philosophy reflects Tyranny of the highest order against We The People and our blood bought freedoms.

Chuck Schumer and many in both houses just like him are enablers to such Tyrannies. That is a Bipartisan across the aisle act of hate against our nation. They believe We The People are too be ruled soley by the annointed elitist rather than ruled by elected consent. Chuck Schumer is a great reason for having Term Limits so Tyrants can not make their elitist ambitions a political reality. Oink Oink Marxist Pigs.
