U.S. Olympic athletes warned against wearing uniforms outside venues in Sochi

U.S. Olympic athletes are being warned not to wear their uniforms outside the games venues in Sochi because of fears of terrorist attacks in the southern Russian city, according to senior officials in the Obama administration.

The unusual caution comes as Russian security forces search for a so-called "black widow" who they fear may be plotting to carry out an attack at the upcoming Winter Olympics. Athletes participating in earlier games, including London and Beijing, did not face a similar warning.

The United States will have a large security contingent at the games – including FBI personal and diplomatic agents. Officials will be prepared for evacuations by air or sea if needed, the senior officials said, with ships being sent to the Black Sea.

Kinda reminds me of the late 60’s early 70’s when we were uh, it was suggested that we not wear our military uniforms in certain areas if at all possible. Except it was from danger from our “fellow” citizens. You know, the ones running the country now. Just be safe team USA.

Seriously, this has been smart advice forever...blend in as much as possible. Wear something that a native might wear. Don't carry expensive luggage or handbags or wear expensive jewelry. With these uniforms, there's the additional threat of being attacked for being ugly and mygosh, looking too much like an American flag.

Whoever approved of these designs? They're flashy, ugly, arrogant, and impractical for winter outdoor wear. It's like we're being punished for demanding made-in-the-USA uniforms.

Judging by their crappy look I wouldn’t want to wear them inside the Olympic Village.

To me, it looks like something you'd wear to one of those ugly-Christmas-sweater parties. ;)

They should try to look like Canadians.

Ralph Lauren, actually. He's got his trademark spattered all over every garment. [I'm not surprised]

Maybe Ralph Lauren hates ‘Merika like OBummer does.

I’d love to see some of the designers ideas that didn’t get the contract. Also, wonder how much he got for the effort.

Back in the late ‘80s, we flew our C-5 into Madrid, Spain. We were told to change out of our flight suits and into civilian clothes to go from the base to our hotel in the city. So we did and then they packed us into a blue Air Force bus marked as such and away we went. Go figure.

First time I saw that sweater I thought...polo?...seriously...we have polo at the winter games...where are the sweaters for, ski, luge, skate...then I figured it out...please note the thought process happened in nanoseconds. I’m not that dense. :-)

Way back when I was a touring musician, we had a free day in NYC. We were told not to wear our tour jackets, for fear they might be misconstrued as gang symbols.
