Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Lepley imagines a scenario where a man has barricaded himself, fired a gun at police officers and placed bystanders in peril.

Enter UHP’s new mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle, “MRAP” for short. Or at least that’s what the U.S. Army called it.

The U.S. Department of Defense recently gave a surplus MRAP to the highway patrol. The law enforcement agency plans to use it to carry troopers to dangerous crime scenes and to keep those troopers safe while protecting civilians. […]

The Defense Department has provided the weaponry and equipment through what it calls the 1033 Program. As of an April 2013 audit, Utah police possessed $2.8 million of weapons and other military gear received through the program. …

Liberals see a world where this stuff will be used against conservatives. But the pendulum is swinging... and this stuff could just as easily be used against illegals.

Dems are being foolish militarizing the police...

The continued militarization of Americans local police force. Exactly what our forefathers feared would happen by an out of control tyrannical government!

This is why Article 9 and 10 of the Constitution was placed in the Constitution, to prevent an overly powered federal government waging war with the individual State governments!

Hey Obumbum says he will act if Congress does not and he has a cell phone where he can call his union buddies to provide threats and bullying to any American who does not agree with this socialist! Now this socialist president will have a standing paramilitary police force to stand and kill Americans, not terrorist on the battle field, or Mexican Nationals breaking into the Country, but, Americans in their private homes, private land, or on their farms!

Soon we’ll have RPGs on the street. These idiots are asking for it. We’ve got an arms race going on right in our neighborhoods.

“We’ve got an arms race going on right in our neighborhoods.”

Exactly right. This is why the push for federal “gun control” because “it ain't no fun when the rabbit has a gun.”

“Enter UHP’s new mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle,’’”

Just in case the felon has barricaded himself behind machine gun nests and has mined the area around his hide-out - as your average felon in America is wont to do.

Little children (the average cop) shouldn’t play with grown-ups’ (real military) toys.

One more example of the fact that cops should NOT be given any weaponry not available to the average law-abiding citizens.

You give them a toy, they’ll find a way to play with it.

If my local law enforcement get one of these, I hope I can resist the impulse to open ‘er up.

The version pictured was withdrawn from service in most areas of Iraq because it wasn't that resistant to getting blow to bits. Many vets of the past few years will know the weaknesses of this system.

American police — military equipment, barney-fife training. Or perhaps the police are being trained how to operate such hardware these days...Which scenario is more disturbing?

maintenance ......... cost and the "know how" on how to maintain these vehicles..... just expensive toys for wanna-be special operators.

gasoline with bleach on the turret or piano wire strung along the road with garbage cans filled with ....whatever.

Just little boys wanting bigger toys. F'ing pathetic.

I believe that they are equally disturbing. Their [the police]ultimate targets are and will not be the criminal element. They will be those who once were citizens with rights and responsibilities. However, these citizens chose to surrender their rights and responsibilities for the illusion of being made to feel “secure”. Thus, they willing became civilians with no rights only privileges granted by the State.

AND, this in a state with one of the lowest violent crime rates in the nation! Having a vehicle like that in a place like Utah is NUTS!

hussein is getting his civilian army. Wait until he declares martial law or finally crashes the US economy so he can take over city/county governments. Then, the only way LEOs, fire and EMS get paid is through the federal government.

These paramilitary vehicles, equipment, hardened facilities, training, etc, has NOTHING to do with what the article presents as the rationale - in my opinion.

In MY OPINION, this crap is being fostered on the local law enforcement establishment for later use by Obama’s Homeland Security. TSA, etc. Waffen SS divisions in the event they need to cower the populace.

What damn good would ANY of this done in the 9-11 situation?

The Boston Bombing???

THINK!!!!!
