Challenger to John Cornyn Brings NDAA Controversy into Texas Race
breitbart.com ^ | 1/25/14 | Brandon Darby

Posted on 01/25/2014 3:11:52 PM PST by cotton1706

Dwayne Stovall, a Tea Party candidate challenging Senator John Cornyn for his seat in the United States Senate, has brought the controversial aspects of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into the primary race.

Stovall is not alone in challenging Senator Cornyn in the primary; U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman is also in the primary, but his chances have been severely damaged by the candidate's decision to remain quiet in light of numerous ethics and financial questions.

Breitbart News has provided our readers with the first look into the Stovall campaign press release, sent to us on January 25, 2014.

The headline invoked Stovall’s shared stance with U.S. Senator Ted Cruz against the fast-tracking of the NDAA vote. It asserted, “Dwayne Stovall Opposes John Cornyn and Stands with Ted Cruz Against Fast-Tracked NDAA Vote.”

Tea Party-endorsed candidate for U.S. Senate, Dwayne Stovall, vigorously opposes the NDAA legislation recently fast-tracked through the Senate and passed with Sen. John Cornyn's approval. The 493-page legislation embodies much of what is wrong with the federal government and highlights the reason that John Cornyn frequently gets it wrong for Texas.

In a statement, Stovall said:

Why is it in the best interest of Texas to hand more power to an administration already hostile to conservatives? When the IRS is used to target Texas conservatives, as Sen. Cornyn well knows because he sits on the IRS oversight committee, there is no reason to hand this administration more ability to target patriotic, law-abiding Texans. Prior to his vote to pass the NDAA, Sen. Cornyn voted that he didn't want debate to end, but that effort failed. Rather than continue to oppose a bill that he felt needed more debate as Sen. Cruz did, Sen. Cornyn voted for this very bill, which greatly expanded government powers...

I appears to me that DWAYNE STOVALL is emerging to be the right guy to replace the light-weight John McCornyn as Senator froom the Lone Star State. I have the impression that Mr. STOVALL will be a great partner and colleague for TED CRUZ.

I met him at the Ted Cruz rally in Arlington a few months ago. He is at least saying the right things, and working hard across the state.

For some reason, I get the distinct feeling that Stockman just in’t all that serious about unseating Cornyn. He sure is not taking the fight to him like I expected that he would.

STOVALL, on the other hand comes across like he is dead serious in wanting to take the Oath of Office and then live up to that Oath. I find him to be very impressive....along the same line as TED CRUZ.

Thank you for the update and insights.

I have not heard enough from or about either Stockman or Stovall, but — at this time — either appears to be an improvement over the incumbent.

Currently, I am planning to vote for Stovall, but — I have to admit — I need to take another look at Stovall.

What about Stockman?

The real question is....... Where is Stockman?

Stockman Mystery Deepens

On Friday, a spokesman for Speaker John Boehner told The Daily Beast that even
Boehner hasn’t heard from Texas Rep. Steve Stockman.

Not even John Boehner has any idea where Steve Stockman is.

I am with you on this. One thing that is 100% certain, Cornyn has proven himself to be unworthy and unfit to have another term as our Senator. He has continually said one thing while acting in another manner. He really has become an insider to the Senate GOP Establishment while telling us that he truly is one of us. The way that he continually put a knife in the backs of TED CRUZ, MIKE LEE, RAND PAUL and Conservatives in general is beyond any level of tolerance that I will extend.

I’m definitely taking a hard and serious look at DWAYNE STOVALL, but I admit to being impressed already.

Where is Stockman? That is easy: He is at his computer typing. I received an email from him (his campaign) today.

Here is the text:

From: “Cong. Steve Stockman” <friends@congressmanstev...
Subject: Liberal panic!
Date: Jan 25, 2014 2:13 PM

Dear ....

Senate backstabber John Cornyn voted to fund Obamacare, and now his plush D.C. office is panicking!

A new poll shows half of Texas Republicans don’t want him back in the U.S. Senate.

He is being soundly rejected by conservatives.

That means if he loses just one percent of his support in the coming weeks he will have to face me in a runoff election.

That’s how Ted Cruz defeated his “lock to win” opponent.

But only if you can help me stop him.

You see, conservatives are learning the truth about Harry Reid’s Republican, John Cornyn.

He stabbed Ted Cruz in the back.

He worked with Harry Reid to kill the Republican filibuster.

And then he voted to fund Obamacare.

Cornyn’s vote to kill the filibuster and fund Obamacare helped place one-sixth of the U.S. economy under government control.

Cornyn’s vote to kill the filibuster and fund Obamacare helped rob millions of their health insurance.

Cornyn’s vote to kill the filibuster and fund Obamacare is pumping millions of tax dollars into the pockets of SEIU union bosses, who use that cash to bankroll Democrat victories.

And Cornyn’s vote to kill the filibuster and fund Obamacare will turn Planned Parenthood into a $2 BILLION abortion and political machine.

I led the fight in the House to block funding of Obamacare, even when Cornyn and the Republican establishment clutched their pearls and told us not to disrespect Obama.

I have a perfect, 100% pro-gun rating from the NRA, National Association for Gun Rights, Gun Owners of America, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and every other pro-gun group.

And I did it every term in Congress.

And unlike Cornyn I won’t stab Ted Cruz in the back. I will stand proudly beside him.

So it’s no wonder the D.C. establishment are telling outrageous lies about me and smearing me.

As conservative radio host Steve Deace says, it’s “hilarious to see libs defending John Cornyn from Steve Stockman... thus proving his point for him.”

But voters haven’t heard about me.

If they don’t hear about my perfect conservative record, and Cornyn’s history of backstabbing and scheming against you, he’ll prance back into the Senate to keep funding Obamacare.

His campaign is in full panic mode. He can’t even top 50 percent after 22 years and tens of millions spent.

I need your help to force backstabber John Cornyn into a runoff.

Can you please go here right now to chip in just $5, or whatever you can afford?

Texas is a huge state, and I need to raise money fast to fund hard-hitting TV ads that defend our values.

Cornyn is on the ropes.

After over a decade of stabbing Republicans in the back and trying to stop the elections of Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Rand Paul, Republicans are turning against Cornyn.

We need to finish the job. Don’t let another compromising liberal keep working with Harry Reid to kill filibusters and fund Obamacare.

Please go here right now to chip in just $5 or more.

Warmest wishes,
signature
Congressman Steve Stockman

P.S. Senate backstabber John Cornyn voted to fund Obamacare, and now his lavish D.C. office is in a panic!

A new poll shows half of Texas Republicans don’t want him back in the Senate.

That means if he loses just one percent of his support he’ll be forced into a three-month-long runoff against me, which is how we elected Ted Cruz!

But that won’t happen unless voters hear about my perfect 100% conservative record, or how Cornyn works with Harry Reid to kill Republican filibusters and fund Obamacare.

Let’s stop Harry Reid’s Republican! Please go here right now and chip in just $5 or more.

Paid for by Steve Stockman for U.S. Senate

Nothing heard. I called last Thursday as follow up. Again, staff said they had no answer because they are busy but they assured me they would answer as soon as they can. I can’t understand why the delay other than they truly are busy, that or they are trying to figure out a politically ‘soft’ response (though that is less likely as Cruz is anything but ‘soft’ when it comes to politics. . .and I respect him for that).

As far as ‘Da Judge is concerned, nothing. Nothing at all. . .

Will let you know as soon as I hear something.

From the git go, I said I would NOT be voting for my Congressman, Steve Stockman, in this race. He has way too much baggage. The front page of the Beaumont Enterprise has hit him the last two Sundays. This week’s front-age headline: “Where is Stockman?” Challenging all his Congressional absences and the votes he’s missed. I’d love to see Linda Vega or Dwayne Stovall take on Cornhole in the Primary run-off. If Stockman is Cornhole’s run-off opponent, Stockman will lose. Take it from this Texan who has known Stockman since 1994 and I’m supporting Linda Vega.

I do daily searches on the Texas race and never see many stories on either Vega or Stovall.

What’s the feel in Texas? Are these two traveling around and making news? Do you think there will be a runoff?

Stockman has always been “strange”. I remember a radio interview with him on KLVI Talk Radio in Beaumont, TX when he was Congressman the first time. I swear, I, and many others, was convinced he was drunk during that interview.

“Yes; there will be a run-off. Conservatives turn out big-time in the Primaries down here.”

Then if you’re right, that’ll be a strong message in itself, that the minority whip, the second highest republican official in the senate, failed to get 50% of the vote in a republican state.

That’s what I want to happen. Cornyn’s primary is the first one and I’d love to see a snowball effect, with poor Lamar Alexander at the end of it, and one worthless incumbent mowed down after another. It will halt Amnesty, Boehner will likely announce his retirement, and the democrats would be stalled as both moderate republicans and democrats would be scared to death to vote for liberal ideas. Only those that are safe till 2016 or 2018 will vote with Reid and Schumer.

***********

Have you seen any polls, local or otherwise lately. I find nothing on the net that
indicates any have been taken. I know sometimes campaigns take polls that aren’t
released to the public.

Cornyn won both the 08 and 02 primaries easily. I’m not sure how it will stack
up this time as I don’t see a lot of state news. Excepting Stockman whose political
activity has been local to SETX I don’t think any of his opponents have any
statewide recognition or funding.

Never the less early voting begins in 22 days so in essence opponents
don’t have much time to make an impact, imo.

Stockman has baggage, but he is very aggressive against Obamacare, refused to vote for Boehner as Speaker and has called for Obama’s impeachment.

Stovall is very conservative and doesn’t have the baggage problem. That said, I would gladly vote for either of them over Cornyn.

First of all, in ‘02 and ‘08, he had no formidable challenger and we did not have ObamaCare. Also, in the beginning, he was “Conservative”, but now, Washington has gotten to him and he has become a “John McCain Conservative”. I’ve seen no polls, but I have seen Cornhole running scared and the people of Texas, who vote in Primary Elections, are mad as hell. Plus, you have a female running, in the Primary, with a Hispanic surname. That served Ted Cruz well and it will do the same for Linda Vega.
