A Texas hospital has agreed to remove a pregnant and brain-dead woman from a ventilator, after a wrenching court fight about who is alive, who is dead and how the presence of a fetus changes the equation.
Sunday's announcement came two days after a judge in Fort Worth ordered John Peter Smith Hospital to remove any artificial means of life support from Marlise Munoz, as her family had asked. The hospital had said it was following a state law that requires hospitals to maintain life-sustaining treatment for a pregnant patient.

if she starts breathing on her own will they starve her or shoot her?
Terri Schiavo part 2
They should removed the baby and try to keep the baby alive. Babies have survived well before this amount of weeks . . . but it take time and medical concern.

Isn’t this a great country?
Texas? Shoot, I’d say...
Again, confirmation we live in a culture of death. How long before God intervenes? I thought last night before I went to sleep about the scripture that says âIf my people, who are called by my name, will turn away from their sins and repent, then I will heal their land.â We can’t do anything it seems right now, about these wicked judges, this wicked administration, this wicked congress; but God can. And all it is going to do is for each and every one of us, ordinary citizens, to turn back to God, the God of our forefathers, Christians and Jews, and He will intervene on our half. Last night, I decided that what I was going to do, aggressively, instead of my usual lackluster take the easy way out of whatever problem I am dealing with, but instead at every decision point, ask myself what is the right thing to do in God’s eyes, and I would like to challenge each and every one of you to do the same. We, the people, have a means at our disposal, and that is to turn to God, to bring back a godly govt, and the wicked in charge will not be able to stand against this. While, of course, we should continue the political to fight this wickedness, this culture of death, all we really need to do is live in a righteous way, so that God will help us, as He has promised to do. If my post reasonates with you, then today, turn back to God in all of your ways, pray for our country, and talk to your friends and family about doing the same. We CAN, the citizens of this country, end all of these doings with Godly lives, prayer, and faith.
I can understand the woman being brain dead and all, but how can the family allow the baby to be killed..that baby is this woman’s legacy, and instead of keeping her alive for the baby’s sake til he or she is born they instead let her die..its despicable..and what just happened to that child is abortion plain and simple..at least let the baby be born and see if he could have survived in this world, now we will never know
I wonder if that would be newsworthy?
Not if a cop does it...
Maybe if they put a puppy in her lap...
One report was the baby is so malformed its sex couldn’t be determined. True or not...????
And .. in Heaven, the child is whole and happy and WITH HIS MOTHER.
Nobody seems to get that part.
Don’t ya just love the way some will try to deceive us with ‘the baby is not viable at 23 weeks’, as if ‘baby’ is not a term of aliveness and ‘not viable’ means dead thing? It is downright demonic in brilliance, this death-cult mantra. Last I checked, dead things do not grow/gestate.
Prayers for all involved.
the baby was 23 weeks along..
she could have lived...
probably hooked up to tubes for a few weeks but eventually on her own..
I’m not sure what gave you the impression that this woman is in heaven. Not saying that she wasn’t a Christian, but to say she’s in heaven without any indication otherwise is jumping the gun a little. If she wasn’t a believer, this makes the situation all the more tragic.
That was the information released Thursday from the affidavits filed by the Munoz family. Also, the husband stated his wife no longer ‘smelled’ like herself. She smelled like death and when he tried to hold her hand, bones broke.
In this case, I believe that God intended for this woman to die, but man intervened. As a result, this woman and child's families have had to know, since around Thanksgiving, that the woman was technically dead. She was being kept alive, by the hospital, in an attempt to keep the baby alive.
I am a woman, the mother of two. If I were in this woman's condition, and I knew the medical issues of the child (you can look for other threads to see those details) I would be horrified to be treated as nothing more than a piece of meat, acting as an incubator for a child that will/would most likely die.
In the meantime, what about this woman's family? They have had to put their grieving process on hold. They know she's dead, they know she's not coming back to them. But instead of planning a funeral and getting on with the process of grieving, they are instead being demonized.
Really, this is none of our business. This is not a woman making a conscience decision to abort her child when the child was 13 weeks. This is not the result of any action by any man. This was God's decision, as are all decisions when it comes to life and death. Just because we can extend the “life” of a person due to extreme medical procedures does not mean we should. There is such a thing as “quality of life”.
And before you ask, yes, I am firmly anti-abortion and fervently PRO-life. Recent life events have helped me clarify my stands on life and death. In the end, as in the beginning, it's God's call.
I do stand with you on your call to bring our government back to God.
The article only said "the fetus was not viable." I wish more had been explained on that, but I have very low expectations for CNN.
What we just witnessed was an abortion taking place, that child was murdered..all of this about the baby being deformed, is there an ultra sound to prove that? This baby had a heart beat and now he or she is dead because for whatever reason the husband decided that he didn’t want to give the baby a chance at life. I can’t understand what the family is going through its tragic, but the baby is this woman’s legacy, I cant understand why they wouldn’t want the baby to at least have a chance at life
Its CNN, the abortion loving network..so I take anything they say with a grain of salt..if the baby has a heartbeat he has a chance
Our client, Erick Munoz, has authorized us to give notice that today, at approximately
11:30 a.m. central time, in accordance with the order of the 96th District Court of
Tarrant County, Texas, issued Friday, January 24, 2014, Marlise Munozs body was
disconnected from life support and released to Mr. Munoz.,
What is your evidence that the actions were not God’s will?
In the meantime, what about this woman’s family?
No its In the meantime, what about this woman’s baby..
the family are all grownups and could look after themselves..
that little innocent baby that the family wanted to kill was helpless and in need of someone to care enough to help her...
but the family wanted her dead...
Both the hospital and family agreed before Wallaces ruling that Marlise Munoz meets
the criteria to be considered brain-dead which means she is dead both medically
and under Texas law and that her fetus, at about 23 weeks, could not be born
alive this early in pregnancy.
Not finished for the people who INSISTED on KILLING the baby along with the mother!!
Be fair, what if the child was born deformed and needed constant care throughout their life, who pays for that?
Are you willing to condemn the family to that?
I know many do knowingly give birth to children with defects, even though they know they are beforehand, and they give the child as much love and care and are willing to sacrifice for them, they are to be greatly admired.....But that was their choice.
Do we really want the force of government to make people choose that path against their will?
We’re not talking here about abortion for mere convenience. I’m sure the family wanted nothing more than to have their wife survive and give birth to a healthy child. I will not condemn them, they have enough to deal with without the invective being heaped upon them.
It’s a tough call here, and I respect the arguments from both sides. But I believe in this one particular case, the right course was ultimately taken. But as the family said after the ruling, “We didn’t win anything.”
Actually if you read the details, the baby has deteriorated drastically with multiple severe deformities and was highly unlikely to survive.
They wanted to kill the baby. That’s all there is to it.
One can only wonder why.
If you read the details the baby was deteriorating, had severe deformities including hydrocephalus that were not compatible with life. This is not the easy decision it seemed. No one is more pro life than I am, and I cannot fault the family for this decision. They need our prayers as Im sure it was gut wrenching.
I understand its just hard, I value life so much, I wanted to see that child born, to at least see if he could have had a normal existence..sometimes doctors can be wrong and the child might have been born normal, I guess now we will never know
That’s a really good question. A mystery in fact.
You just don't get it. We interfered in the first place. And they said the baby was not viable.
I'm sure they did too, it just wasn't meant to be....Tragic all around. The family deserves our prayers, not our scorn.
Ultrasounds showing the degree of deformity reported are not wrong. This child had very little chance at life and no chance at normal life.
This is nothing like that case at all.
He gives us the free will to cause and allow things to happen also.
And still He loves us.
Its sad all the way around, at least now mother and baby are together in heaven
And I think sadness is the correct response, not scorn and condemnation for a family making a horrible decision that I hope none of us have to face..... They are in my prayers today.
The mother was found in her house, with greater than 5 minutes of oxygen deprivation. The fetus, then suffered the same amount of oxygen deprivation. The fetus also had hydrocephalus, cardiac abnormalities, and deformed lower extremities. This would not result in a normal existence. Terribly sad for the family, mom and baby.
I worked at a group home. Every single one of those residents was a ward of the state and all were profoundly developmentally disabled. THey did not have any chance at a normal life. Using this argument, we should have lined them up and killed them?
